Why do the world saves take so frikkin long these days?

Ive noticed this since I came back. They are at least twice as long as I remember.

Not a huge deal, still rather short, but noticeable.

Maybe because there are 7,768,994 items? When I started in Jan 2010, there was roughly 1.9m items.....that is a lot to back up no?
