Re: Era Accuracy: Black Sandals
I second the notion to have black sandals spawn! Its already been proven its era accurate, so lets see these amongst the others that don't spawn that should to show up.

Re: Era Accuracy: Black Sandals
I dunno if it helps but this story from Belan the Looter shows that black sandles definitely spawned on Jewelers at one point on OSI. Unfortunately the story dates from a little before 26/8/00 but it proves that there was a spawn afterwards. Given that the spawn seems to be a long term bug in the colour coding it would probably be safe to assume that they had been this way for sometime but I'm not saying it's conclusive proof that they were this way in our target era.

Re: Era Accuracy: Black Sandals
I'm not sure it's era accurate relevant but I did just find some black sandals on a jeweler in Magincia on the demo.

Re: Era Accuracy: Black Sandals
As I remember it they only spawned on some Jewlers. The only one I knew of was in Papua.

Re: Era Accuracy: Black Sandals
It is all NOT fact, since we don't have proof, but they spawned in Magincia as well. Everytime I logged in I would check, and one day (Out of maybe 150 logins?) I nabbed me a set. I use to also put coins under the fruit basket there, it would push the basket up, allowing you to eat it, and take the basket that is left behind.
Re: Era Accuracy: Black Sandals
Black sandles used to drop here from weavers. It was phased out on OSI and should be here.

Re: Era Accuracy: Black Sandals
This issue was researched extensively and the final verdict can be seen in Patch 137:
"Jeweler and Weaver clothing which were inheriting a verified OSI bug were corrected, as research has shown that OSI also corrected this bug at some point themselves."

Re: Era Accuracy: Black Sandals
But if they were fixed by OSI after our cut-off date they should still be here.......there are lots of bugs we still have here that were "fixed" by OSI after our cut-off date.....

Re: Era Accuracy: Black Sandals
Perhaps i'm missing something (wouldn't be the first time), but everything I have seen seemed to indicate that the "problem" on OSI was people killing the NPC's for sandals, hence them making certain shopkeepers invulnerable. I've also seen what seems to indicate that this was not done as a blanket thing, but more as an "as-needed" thing at first. From what i've read, it looks like the major changes ocurred well after our cut-off date. Also, I know that they still spawned after our cutoff date and even into UO:R on NPC's.
Was there something that said that the sandal hues were changed to not spawn or were they "no longer spawning" because they were making certain shopkeepers invulnerable....thus not allowing players to force the spawn by killing them?
Idunno, just seems like all of this ocurred after our cutoff date.
One thing I am positive on, though, is that they did not remove the ability for the NPC's to spawn with Black Sandals...and if they didn't make them invulnerable in our Era...then they should be spawning.

Ya i remember this, it was The jewelers In papua by the banker, was a small % chance for the jeweler to spawn with these color sandals but was worth the effort.

Re: Era Accuracy: Black Sandals
yeah, i used to start a 50 music/provocation character in moonglow, recsu recdu him to papua, and provo gorillas on weavers next to the bank all day on lake superior. i definitely got blacks off of them. if i am not mistaken, weavers still spawn HERE with pure black shoes. so perhaps their huge range isn't the problem, the problem is perhaps that weavers don't spawn with sandals?

Re: Era Accuracy: Black Sandals
It's been so long ago and I don't feel like looking into all the patches but ya I'm pretty sure Glacial Staffs and Black Sandals spawned because You would always see people at bank with the pimped outfits, Daemon Bone Armor, Glacial Staff & Black Sandals along with a pure nightmare and the Lord title.
Maybe I missed it or didn't see all the posts but if the items were in t2a before the cutoff date then later was taken out after the cutoff date wouldn't that make them t2a accurate? I mean Black Sandals & Glacial staffs don't effect pvp if you take away the Glacial staff special ability. Gives something people to do when they are bored. There's alot of stuff in t2a era that was bugged, fixed and taken away or added, I don't think it has anything to do with being t2a accurate because if it was it would be on the server.
Just my two cents anyways.

Re: Era Accuracy: Black Sandals
I'm new to the shard, but I'm really excited to play in a place where the staff is so dedicated to recreating the T2A experience. I've been doing nothing but macroing so far, but I did watch a PvP tourney the other day to try to get a feel for the mechanics and whether they're accurate. I can't say for sure until I actually get to fight myself but so far everything looks really good, and I'm stoked about it. I haven't been this into UO in years.
That said, I think this shard has the potential to recreate almost every aspect of the T2A experience. And while black sandals are far from the most important part of it, I definitely want some. I know they're on the shard and I'll want to get my hands on a pair or two, but I'm not a big PvM fan so I'm really not up to farming mils for them. I'd really like to see them spawn, as realistically, that's probably the only way I'll ever get a pair. So that's my selfish reason. The objective reason would be, intended or not, that's how it was. OSI did change it, but they did so after T2A. Black dye tubs were also a bug. Precasting was never intentionally (re-)added until Publish 14 in 2001. But we have those other unintentional things here, right? So why not black sandals?
Were it up to a vote, I'd say put them in. They're era-accurate, they have no effect on gameplay, and it seems like the majority of players want to see them spawn.
