Population?
I'm sure you've met me Barriod ( blacksmith)
i was wondering how many players the second age shard was estimating for the future?

Well player population has been building fast, but it really depends on how well we get our name out there and how many players are interested in playing on a T2A era server that is authentic. The server could handle hundreds, but it's really a wait and see game. Many players are in and out because they want to play somewhere where skill gains come easy and everyone gets a free house at login. Some servers do do that but I don't believe that a solid loyal playerbase can be built that way; I wouldn't want to play on a server like that for sure.
We're always looking for new ways to attract players. Maybe we can gather some suggestions in this thread.
We're still relatively new at this point, I suspect word of mouth alone to have somewhat of an exponential effect.
Good to have you on the shard.

As someone who just joined, the things that turned me off other "Second Age" servers was their personal changes.
Most had easy skill gain. Authentic skill gain is better. Being a grandmaster is supposed to MEAN something. You can't train that skill any higher, you want some high status for that.
Items. I never liked hued items. Special items such as artifacts that were added in later expansions were just normal art work with weird colours. They should have had their own artwork to make them UNIQUE.
The biggest attraction for me to the original UO was the "here jump into a big world and work your way up". It's traditional roleplaying gameplay. Giving people isntant max skilled characters removes a major portion of the game.

As well i think we owe derrick and his staff a HUGE round of applause in keeping there focus and determination for the shard, they have truly shown that there still is people who both love and are interested in Ultima online:T2A.They will bend over backwards to fix, answer, and help any problems that anyone has.
This is the kind of Men&Women who we need in the Ultima world and will always cherish forever more.
Sincerly,

Re: Population?
I think the main thing to get the players in is constantly voting for the shard, especially in the top 200 free shards over the top 100 free shards page, as this appears first in google wne typed 'UO free shard'. The fact it is authentic T2A will make people stay..I recently logged on to my old shard I played where it was T2A but with changes where I ahve over 1 mil gold, 9x gm chars and stuff...and it wasnt the same as the 2 weeks i have been playing on here..more people will realise that when they get here.
As mentioned on other threads, I do believe the Young Status would attract, and it can always be renounced anyway. Maybe even a "starter room" that people can chose to walk through on creation of a new character that you see on many shards, just teaching basics of equiping weapons and combat, healing and stuff.
I know this would take away from exact T2A, but it would only be a teaching room for Brand New UO players and it would not be accessible after they left it to enter Brit or wherever.

Re: Population?
We have a pretty active player base that spends their time helping new people out (helping with picking templates, giving them a little start up cash, a safe place to macro/train/practice, and even some dungeon escorting/group farming), I believe the [T2A] guild is one of the bigger groups doing this.Allyward wrote: I know this would take away from exact T2A, but it would only be a teaching room for Brand New UO players and it would not be accessible after they left it to enter Brit or wherever.

Re: Population?
Penalty for red is too strong IMO. There's definately not enough running battles like the old days. No large anti v pk guilds. Kind of sad. I'm thinking of quitting because I feel I've done everything I wanted and there isn't enough to keep me here... events are too contrived... there's not enough freedom with PvP because the penalties for pk'ing make it so that people who would normally go red are too scared of getting killed by random lag spikes etc.
The crazy thing with the current red system is that to avoid getting counts a red has to wait for a blue to attack... how dumb is that? Basically, a red has to wait for a blue who thinks he can take the red before the red can PvP unless he wants to move into stat loss... so the red isn't the agressor it's actually the blue... the red is using his status to provoke at attack...
I realise T2A is trying to be accurate, I can live with that, but it doesn't change my opinion that the golden age of UO (albeit there were bugs) was around 1998 when penalties for reds was minimal (i.e. no town entry), that was the purest most addicitive gaming for me. Order/Chaos is a poor relation to the rich options offered by pk v anti.
If we actually got some decent field PvP then I think word would spread...

Re: Population?
You can find field pvp if you look. It is annoying is that I see many orange players in events that I have never seen out on the field but this is not to say there are no field fights going. Try destard or brit graveyard or vesper strip.
Statloss is fine. I statloss pk, I die sometimes and I macro the counts or retrain. If there was no statloss then too many newbs would be pking and the folks who want to actually pvm would have less chance to do so. Believe it or not there are many people on this server who just like farming and accumulating wealth.
