House Space.

Post by Lucky »

Hi there. I just wanted to give some feedback from a new player.

I started a few weeks ago and play off and on when I have the time. Starting back up was a challenge, but I macro'd provoke and started making some cash.

I've finally saved up enough for a large brick house and thought, wow, now I get to go out and find a cool spot to place it.

What I found was hundreds of houses EVERYWHERE. I understand the desire for three accounts. I know that people want to be able to play however they want. However, I really don't see the need for every player to have the ability to have what? ...15 houses? More?

To me, the landscape just represents people's desire to dominate. How many of those houses are empty? How many people are just logging in to refresh their house and not actually playing?

Basically, this experience has turned into something negative and really takes away from the fun of playing here.

Yeah C'est la vie...

People are hoarders, but you may find a spot for your L-Brick, perhaps not most desirable. But you can also buy a a fairly undesirable L-Brick for like 10k over deed from another player.

There's lots of room for smalls, some decent locations. People around here are split on housing, I for one think 15 per player is absurd and encourages land sitting, but that's me, others feel its perfectly OK and 'era accurate' (the debate on accuracy of 3 accts is unsettled)

Good luck to you mate, thing is though that full land is era accurate, I recall it was hard to find room for a small back in '99.

Contact Zyler on forums. I believe he is
getting close to selling his large brick.
Its on the egde of the swamps, but not
too bad. I'm sure he wont want much over deed, maybe
10k over.

Dont let a small obstacle like housing discourage you.

First of all, welcome to UOSA!

I agree that 15 houses does seem excessive, but I am certain that relatively few people have more than 3-4 houses, although I could be wrong. For the most part, the people that do hoard housing are the ones constantly selling on the forums for deed + a reasonable fee, as was already mentioned. Guilds also hoard housing for their towns, which is a great thing for the UOSA community in my opinion.
As for the empty houses, many will seem that way because the contents of houses don't load until you walk onto the steps (though there are some that actually are empty).
Lastly, limited housing space is era accurate. I don't really like this argument because of the difference in our shard's population compared to OSI T2A, but it is the truth. It was next to impossible to place a small on OSI, and here there are spots for smalls all over the place.
My recommendation is to suck it up, farm a little extra gold, and go on the housing forum and buy a placed house that's up for sale. Hope this helps!

This has already been touched on but the housing here is amazingly cheap for the most part. More often than not most houses go for deed + small. Eo had a tower that sold for deed + 2 smalls or whatever and Vampyra has a nice brick in the jungle for deed + small (prolly less).

I understand that you prefer to place your own brick, but I personally believe its better to pay the extra deed which allows you to be more selective and get a location that better suits your needs.

As someone that payed RL dollars for a house on LS and then only got a house on SP because I was there when the server started, I have to concur that housing here is very reasonable.

I got a Large Patio for the equivalent of 1 week of gold farming. And the location isn't bad either. (Brit GY)

I would say housing here is perfect. You can place smalls easily, you have to actually buy larges from other people.

You can even place larger houses on occasion, but there are plenty of places for smalls. Most larger houses that are in non-premium location go for deed + 5 or 10k. You'll have a place in no time.

Also, there's the luck of the draw.
I've stumbled upon recently decayed towers where it's just a pile of loot on the ground.

I saw an L-shape fall two screens east of the Yew moongate ~2 months ago. Took several days, or maybe even a week before someone placed a new house. You could probably find several spots if you just took the time to check the whole map.

Just post on the trade forum that you're looking for a large house. Most large houses (except keeps/castles) sell for 20-40k more than deed price. That's very reasonable.
