Lol. All the things you said made me come back to UO :D

Tram did not just ruin uo..

Tram ruined all MMORPG, because they took UOs lead.

We probbly would have better mmos right now if UO had played to the adventurer.

My main is merchant, and I do not support the use of trammel or any form there of.

I have to say that is an astute observation jackshephard. Its a topic I discuss from time to time with my roommate who is a huge WoW player. Since Trammel was introduced you've seen it all cascade into PvP flags and PvP zones in other games.

I don't like getting my crafter (which is really what I love to do in UO, create things) PK'ed by some red camping a mining spot to get 4 shovels and some ore off of me, but at the same time, I know it's part of the game. So I just deal with it and if it's bad enough, I could probably find some anti-PK people.

Man I'm sorry, but I remember getting pwned all of the time as a newb on the original UO. PKs would--and should--kill anyone if we are looking for a true pre-trammel UO experience. I say, suck it up, get frustrated, and pwn them back!

Then explain why all of the other MMORPG games are more successful than this shard. I sincerely don't mean to troll, but I think it's obvious.

Tram didn't ruin any MMORPG, it's what the larger % of the gaming community wanted. Otherwise, there would have never been a trammel.

Also, if trammel did indeed ruin all MMORPG games. All other things held equal, this shard should have a larger population.

We arent the flavor of the month here.

What we have here is die hard fans and new people looking for a game thats not a console.

If this shard was advertised like WoW or any of the public games there would be a ton more people.

*edit for spelling,...

Well, ruined for open world purists like ourselves. Sure, the MMORPGs are successful, but they don't actually have an open world like UO T2A has. Kraft Dinner (er... Kraft Macaroni and Cheese) is successful too, but it's not as good as home made mac and cheese.

Having played WoW and many other flavor-of-the-month MMO's, I always seem to look back on my time spent in UO as still the most fun. It's not that it's a more popular game, obviously. At its zenith it was nowhere near the rampant popularity of WoW. The thing that MMO's post-UO and pre-WoW killed for me is the levels required to advance. I remember playing on the OSI shards back in the day (Atlantic, to be precise) and being content to be a merchant/craftsman. I was always more intrigued with the idea of patching up war-torn heroes after their latest trip into a perilous dungeon and hearing their stories than I was to be running the dungeons themselves. That aspect alone is what killed a lot of the more modern MMO's for me. It's not to say that WoW is a bad game. Obviously, it gives players what they want given the size of its player base. Newbies can run around and solo most of the early content without ever feeling in danger (As I did. I started playing WoW during WotLK and soloed all of the vanilla content and used dungeon finder for the rest) and you always get shiny new gear, levels, and achievements to make you feel special. Then, once you hit the level cap, you can get in a guild, hop on ElitistJerks.com to figure out your casting order, buff up your gear score, and face-roll on whatever the current end-game boss is until they de-buff him enough so your group can actually down him to get more shinies.

The merits of all this can be debated, but the reason I would agree that most of us come to this shard and not one of those "OMG Rates+++ New Dungeons More Colorz" shards is that we are looking for this experience that can't be found in modern MMO's.

audidmutt you sir are a legend!

Absolutly Correct, I much prefere UO like it is now as in the "PlayerBase" UO Needs a steady player base instead of thousands of people joining, and thousands leaving, anywhere between 20-1000 is enough for a shard to survive. Wow relies on millions because that is the game mechanics, and its so repetative.

UO requires brains and choice with the 700 skill lock ( CANT STAND SHARDS WITHOUT IT THE GAME BECOMES VOID, OH LOOK I CAN GM EVERY SKILL LOOK AT ME IM UBER).

This game actually requires thinking, and at the stage this shard is at, probally the most worth while shard to play on, challengeing, social and fun.

The problem with the newer MMOs is due to the sense of entitlement that the newer generations have.
Its what I call the everyone gets a blue ribbon generation.

"I pay X amount, so im entitled to see everything in the game with no time or effort!"

Games like UO and EQ required time, and effort, and you had an attachment to each of your chars.
Hardcore people owned, but gave the casual or unskilled players something to strive for.

Just my 2 gold lol
