Funny thread.
Personally, I get plenty of a rush being attacked by another player, simply because the outcome isn't certain. That is the joy of UO. If they kill me, fine. If they decide to leave me some items so I can get back toa town, great.
Like one poster put so perfectly, why hold a red flag in front of a bull like this? You will get yours eventually.
On PK etiquette, from a new player: a little harsher, please

I didn't read every single post in this thread, but I did read all on the first page + here is my insight:
This is not Ultima Online 1999. This is a replication of it. This is a free private server running a very old game and even though it's one of the most popular now running, the number of people playing at any one time is numbered in the hundreds not the hundreds of thousands. It's very hard to advertise this game because it isn't easy to explain. It's very hard to convince people that it's even worth the bother of trying in the first place or sticking with for any length of time. And a lot of players here understand that. There won't always be thousands more people signing up every day regardless of how many people you grief. I'm sure a lot of players here know what happens when player population drops too low on a private server - regular players start talking about how it's a dead server and start abandoning it in favor of one with a higher pop, and then it isn't long before it's taken down for good.
To sum it up: Some PKs here will not kill the golden goose. I greatly appreciate their wisdom.
