Too much weed. ;)

This is from Feb 23 2000

update.uo.com wrote: Animal and Monster Spawn Phase II
Untamed monsters and animals in houses will “die” after a certain amount of time. These monsters and animals will be eligible for “death”, within a given amount of time, under the following circumstances:
  • If the monster/animal is not targeted.
  • If the monster/animal does not receive or deliver damage.
Upon review of this though, it does look like we don't have this implemented correctly and I'll fix the accuracy of this asap.

The patch where monsters break boxes didn't apply to locked down boxes inside houses, it was mostly to prevent trapping ogres and whatnot.

ima agree with wick, while you have accurate info on the patch.. feb 2000 seems too late..(agreed it IS t2a, but barely) I too remember trapping animals in houses and them not decaying.. I actually thought this was fixed in UOR but i guess feb 2000 still counts as t2a.. I guess for somereason I count t2a as anything UP TO (before) Test Center came out with a test faction system.. it was with factions I started playing less and then with stuns and shit I quit..

We can certainly talk about taking it out. We do pick and choose elements from within the era to some extent. We of course want precast which was removed around this same time period, but we also want smelting, which was added around this same time too.

Or, we could just extend the decay time. Add your thoughts here and we'll make changes if desired.

Cool, yeah I like the idea of extending decay time, I think no decaying is too extreme, not to mention with no decaying it becomes possible to macro skills like animal taming, and seeing as we now have tamers PVPing (so lame..) i think we need to do what we can to keep tamers one of the hardest temps to gain. (in other words unmacroable hehe)

Taming on Second age cannot be macroed ; When you tame a creature , you cant gain skills from it again after releasing.

i dont really have any problem with this issue honestly , has the only reason to box animals on other servers was to train animal taming.

on a side note , i do agree that those who pvp with their dragons are totally lame. ( this is not crying storm. )

Shivers wrote:I could be wrong on the timing, I remember there was a special # of creatures needed to tame for your taming "memory" to reset (ie. tame X number of animals and then it would reset and no longer say: that was not even challenging)
This is correct. it was essentially a limitation of the server to remember all those creatures. Item ID (which was per player) also had the same flaw.

We will be fixing the creature decay in houses so that targeting a creature will reset it's decay time. As log as you "interact" with the creatures they will not decay.

not real sure how this would help or fit but i remember on OSI shard Seige Perilous During AOS and just prior SE that I had 3 timber wolves i locked in a room at the Inn and gained from taming and releasing and retaming to 50 skill i think. personally dont remember seeing a "that wasnt even challenging" message till after ML was released. It was on a free shard i first seen that message as well. Might have been a bug then but i really dont know if it was.Oh and they were there if I came back next day but if i missed a day and came back 2 or more days latter they would be gone. the wolves that is.
