Town fighting... no magery damage?

Post by Snafu »

Has this server always been set up to where theres no spell damage in towns? or was it changed to this? I do know there was serveral "era's" to T2A where they did change some things and then changed them back ect.. I remember some of the best PvP was guild wars in towns. where mages were not gimped in town?

Thanks for any feedback!

Well, I know Magery did damage in towns at some point because one of the only ways to get True black sandles for awhile was to kill NPC Tailors who wore them by casting exp on them and then recalling out before it hit.

Magery always did minimal damage in town for the entire duration of T2A. The methods for receiving black sandals that worked during T2A and throughout all of UOR was to cast fire field and target the NPC. Through a bug with determining criminal status with regard to NPCs and field spells, you would not be guardwhacked, nor would you attract the NPC as an aggressive action either. Since NPC life was relatively low and the damage for fire field spells was 1 damage from the get go, the field spell would have the same effect inside and outside of town. As a result, Fire field was the spell of choice for killing NPCs.

My memories of town fights involved a lot of mages healing, para, poisioning, it was prolly usually a 2:3 ratio to dexer townies

Ive killed dozens of NPCs back then for sandals, never heard of this. We used to cast explode on them and offscreen. If you were out of the NPCs range of vision, they wouldnt even react to it. Usually only took one explode, sometimes two.

Soooo, I dunno what to make of this. Me and others definately did this, and often. And I know it wasnt pre t2a, because before all the changes I was too much of a noob to do anything like this. Im quite positive this was long after I had finished my first tank mage, which allowed me to join my first pvp guild, who in turn showed me how to do this.

I stopped playing after ren.

ya im pretty sure there was spell damage at some point in t2a in towns .. wasnt the troll invasion of vesper in 99? which is t2a yes? i remember everyone at the bank when the troll boss came mana dumping like crazy on him.. corps flyin from everywhere. t2a lasted about what a year and a half.. i know i never played a townie.. i had a dexer but didnt use him that often an mostly dueled with him more then pvp warring. i did that mainly with my mage since i was constantly fightin against the odds and i liked my mage better.

I know i didnt stay out of towns and know i didnt just poison hally all day long in town for a year and a half.

I'm personally a big fan of Magery doing damage in towns, but in order for the change to occur, there is going to have to be some evidence shown to sway towards that.

there was never at any point in t2a a time when magery did damage to players in town. i know this for certain because my main on OSI was a dexxer in a very large war guild. the only thing mages would do in town was poison, para, heal, cure and hally hit. the dexxers were the ones doing the damage in town wars. hence why everyone refered to most dexxers as townies back in the day. because it was a template for town fighting.

These look pre-T2A.
Mostly due to the fact they are have minimized paperdolls, backpacks and spellbooks. There was no room on the pre-T2A client to have these in a black area beside the client window.

Also, this one shows a tent:

All the pics can be viewed here:

They do seem to span a large period of time. Nice find.

Here's a T2A era one, with the larger client interface, and dexers in town, with mages healing:

i only remember being able to kill npc's on my dexxer in guards going out of thier screen, and attacking only the name when theyre not in your screen. they would auto defend but since your not in the screen they would rarely call guards, just come and get killed.

I was looking through the pictures, and this one makes me believe they are all pre-t2a.

Casting field spells in town was allowed during pre-t2a when you could summon in town for magery gains.
