Magery in town.
I remember closer to the release of UO:R there was tons of fighting going on in towns in regards to mages participating in those fights.
The pvp on this shard is often explained as unorganized and poor, due to poor management of guilds, no competition and/or no general meeting place for pvp to take place.
As a result, people are:
1- Harassing people outside of their houses and camping them (especially guilds with newer players)
2- Pk people, especially newbies, in hotspots.
3- Constantly camp/visit hotspots and pk farmers and newbies.
I attempted to look into this but couldnt find anything archived that dates the introduction of magery damage in town.
I think this would boost activity in town, organize pvp better, have the new players see more pvp, and decrease in the amount of pking that happens.
Thoughts? Discuss!

Re: Magery in town.
this will never happen, and nothing can ever be done to help the pvp here...its a random gank fest out there, era accurate lol
Re: Magery in town.
Magery damage was reactivated for the Faction System around the UOR publish for obvious reasons. The highlight of the t2a era was that the PVP was pretty much based around dungeons. No magery damage in town was in part one of the many reasons for this.
Re: Magery in town.
Didn't factions come out YEARS after UO:R was released?

no
Re: Magery in town.
Magic damage in town or not, pvp wouldn't be more common. Why? Because there's "500 players online", 250-300 IPs, 10-50 non-AFK PVPers maybe? And a huge map to crawl on. If people aren't meeting at the GY, Buc's Den, or Dungeons, why would they meet at a town?

Re: Magery in town.
I think its funny that you think that being able to cast magic in town would solve the pvp/griefing that goes on. Either way, what is going to make for more pvp in town is quite simply, to fix the dexxers. Dexxers suck and untill people start seeing a reason to make them, they are not going to go through the boring ritual of doing so for town warfare. Its near impossible to kill anyone with a dexxer given the easy of healing, potions, the inability to make contact with a moving opponent, and the lack of spell interupts.

Re: Magery in town.
I kill plenty of people with my "dexer" in both town and out of town. People need to learn how to play them again.Senses wrote:Its near impossible to kill anyone with a dexxer given the easy of healing, potions, the inability to make contact with a moving opponent, and the lack of spell interupts.

no, sense has it right. dexxers are the easiest to survive on but at the same time can't kill anyone for shit.RoadKill wrote:I kill plenty of people with my "dexer" in both town and out of town. i'd probably say that a lot of this is due to much faster connections now a days and no one is retarded enough to stand right beside a dexxer when redlined anymore.
Re: Magery in town.
I think I could kill every single one of you with my dexer that says "oh you have to be retarded to lose to a dexer" ...
You all have probably just been fighting ones that run with bandages and a gm weapon and nothing else ... thats called a free kill, not a dexer.
Magery in town won't add pvp to anywhere, only spread it out even more.

Re: Magery in town.
Ok, so lets assume that dexxer's arent broke and that they are bad ass motherfuckers in the hands of a person with some skill and an attitude. Why do we see 0 chaos/order town fighting? Back in the day there was tons and I stand by the fact that its because Dexxers are inherently broken on this server and anyone who can heal themselves or just plain recall away makes themselves near impossible to kill with melee alone. Fights that don't end with people are dying are pretty much 0 fun. One guy with a couple pots and a heal spell could probably move around a grp of 5 dexxers without dying permanently unless he got poisoned and all he has to do is recall and cure it as his liesure. Dexxers are broke, period.

your retarded if you think dexxers are broke. i play a poisoner dexxer and never have trouble killing tank mages. its all about gear with a dexxer. power/vanq weps, solid supply of deadly poison, and purple pots. there is alot more to dexxing then click and follow. i use more razor macros playing my poisoner then i do on my mage. if u cant figure out how a dexxer could use that many hotkeys, then your not playing your dexxer right.
and although i spend most of my time outside of town, i never seem to have trouble running into an orange or 2 when i do go to town. sure u dont see any 20+ member guild wars at the bank, but this isnt OSI either. we dont have that kind of player base here (yet).
Re: Magery in town.
I play a Macer and I usually carry a GM Qstaff, War Hammer, and Lightning Wand (if mages can do it, so can I). I carry 5-8 of each potion, 5-10 pouches, and 15-20 greater explosion potions (because people run way to damn much).
With that said, I'm more than happy to fight anyone out of town, in fact, I have the advantage outside of town over the mages.

Re: Magery in town.
I think what would balance mages in town is to beef up the summon daemons melee damage.
