A few questions
A few questions
Before I invest any time in this server, I have a few questions.
1) Is the server populated?
Im not really one for dead servers
2) Is there a lot of griefing?
Im dont enjoy people killing me maliciously just to make my day a living hell. IE killing the Healers around and rez killing and corpse camping. I can deal with this attitudes at work. Dont really want to deal with a lot of that in-game and if the majority of people are or even 50% of the people are are dicks to strangers, then please, let me know.
3) Is the server just full of PKs and Thieves?
I know this is basically the majority that UO like games attract, but if this is all we have on here, Id like to know.
Thanks. Honest opinions and feedback for a stranger and new comer are appreciated. I wont hesitate to leave if this is nothing more than a bunch of jerks trying to loot n00bs. I pay my taxes enough in real life.

Re: A few questions
1) IMO populated enough, you run into people often enough to not feel alone, nothing like OSI though.Neith wrote:Before I invest any time in this server, I have a few questions.

2) There is griefing, but nothing worse than back on OSI shards, IMO even less here than there was back then. Lot's of PKs don't dryloot, some offer gates or rezs and very very few corpsecamp without reason (you insulting them or whatever, dunno really, I'm a vocal guy and have NEVER been corpse camped or excessively rez killed yet). Sure sometimes they want a bounty to not loot you (hi le PINK BOOTS), but I kinda like that behavior. And yea, sometimes your horse dies without reason, but that's UO, not too much griefing there.
3) A good number of reds, not too many thieves I've run into yet, and also a good number of people who flag grey at the GY or whatever looking for fights. As many people have said before, you can easily avoid 95% of all deaths with very basic preparation.

the a-holes you find anywhere else.
I've been here close to 2 years. Its what you make of it. There are ppl & guilds [NEW] that
help new players get a good start.
I'd be glad to lend you hand in getting started here, just let me know it you want to give it a try.

Reds outnumber the good guys now simply because the good guys became reds.

Re: A few questions
It doesnt sound like its for me. I dont really enjoy being target practice. I wish I had started when the server first started. Different when you start out on the same playing field than being the new guy with no skills.
Thanks for the answers though.
I do have one more question.
Is the Terathan Keep the old school T2A Terathan Keep with magic weapons? Or is this the newer later version where that ended?

Thanks for the answers though.

Re: A few questions
Except that you wouldn't be the new guy with no skills. The most important skill in UO is player knowledge. I started a month ago, and I made a 7x gm tank mage within 3 weeks.Neith wrote:It doesnt sound like its for me. I dont really enjoy being target practice. Also, Terathan Keep has magic weapons and avengers that will hump your corpse.

I don't recall being able to get magic weapons there, except off monsters there, if that's what you speak of. TheyNeith wrote:It doesnt sound like its for me. aren't laying around there here.
Not sure what play style you play, but I'm rarely was a target of anyone here. You can 7 GM a char without
really even have to interacting with anyone, as far as being a target.
I know it sounds like I'm trying to talk you into it, but if you like UO, you like UO. For something you loved to play back in
the day and don't have to pay for it, or have the restrictions of building a char from scratch without
the ability to macro like you can here, have 3 accts to build any char
amount of time and expense.

Yes, I meant on the Terathans themselves. Back in the day, we used to just kill Terathans all day and night for magic weapons. They would drop some Gold and a magic weapon on each. You had to worry about PKs and Avengers, but that was your only worry. This is where I had most of my fun.Orion GM B^D wrote:I don't recall being able to get magic weapons there, except off monsters there, if that's what you speak of. After UO:R (I believe) they changed the drop rate for magic weapons and it became like one out of every 100 that dropped a magic weapon, so eventually this place became a wasteland too.
I was just curious if this was 100% magic weapon like UO:TSA or if it is like UO:R where they ruined this place for those of us that lived there.
Im not against playing in harsh conditions. You do need money to start off though. What I noticed on other private servers is that you get camped a lot in the newbie areas for their very own "Welcome to our UO server" and it becomes annoying to try and start off in a World filled with griefers, because this is what ruins it for me. I dont want to come in and be camped by players that have been playing for years and have 7X Gms and weapons and armor I cant compete with. That isnt fun to me. Thats nothing but annoying to me. I didnt deal with that in UO because I started from the beginning. I loved UO, but I was never on the "n00b" list, so I never felt that jerks camping n00bs like others may have. I guess I was lucky.
I am researching the private servers still. Just getting a feel for the community and looking around before I dive in.
Re: A few questions
I've been here for about 2 months now. I've never felt frustrated at any point yet. I have 3 chars, a provoker 7x gm, in which i've been everywhere, provoking here and there and i've been able to build a decent fortune. Of course I encountered PKS, but most of the times I was able to escape, is not that hard. Most times I got killed, they ressurrected me, hand me enough regs to recall, and kept my runes and my mount. Its been like... 5%? of times where I got dry looted, mount killed and left to run..
I also made a dexxer, almost 7 X GM. With this one I like to explore forests, dungeons.. not much hots spots, so I've encountered far less pks than with my bard.
Also made a dungeon chest picklocker from which I made a lot of nice items and money..
I was able to buy my own house and place it with a bit of work.
I find the server is very enjoyable. It reminds me of early times, and that is definetely a good memory. I mostly play solo, but I was offered a lot to join group hunts, even got invited to nice guilds.. I mean, theres a lot of good people out there willing to help new ones.
Server is definetely worth a try. Just stay out of hot spots when begginer (Brit graveyard, even Vesper GY.. etc etc)

Re: A few questions
This is the *only* populated T2A server around - I've searched around the net, but this server is consistent, with a solid player base.
Are you going to be the N00b? Absolutely! ... and you should be until you grind it out, just like everyone else does.
Some things that you've said give me the impression that you're looking for trammel - if you're not going to rage quit after your chainmail tunic of defense gets looted by a guy named "pWNdUrMOM" that just PK'd you while out slaying mongbats, than you might survive.

Re: A few questions
I wouldnt say id rage quit from being ganked, looted, or being the victim of better skilled players. I would however quit if this is all i found on the server.
What made uo for me was the mixture of play styles. If this is nothing more than the former felucca player after the split, then it may not be for me. I loved uo for way more than just the freedom to be a dick. I left uo because thats all that ended up in felucca and it wasnt for me.
I enjoyed the community more than the free pass to do wrong

It's T2A UO so there's definitely PK'ing and PvP and theifs and all that stuff, but that's what made UO great and that's the spirit behind the shard. The difference is that new players aren't really completely new (most of played back in the OSI days) and the population isn't full of school kids waiting to get home so they can PK miners. There's lots of PvM, guilds, crafting, vendors, etc. so you can play a few days and see that it's a strong, stable shard with a good pop and economy. If that's not good enough, your itch to revisit UO just isn't that strong.
