A couple things to consider.

For ideas on how to make Second Age a better shard. Can it get any better? Maybe.

A couple things to consider.

Post by Hemperor »

* Every skill point from the minimum Skill necessary and beyond provides, approximately, an additional 2% to 3% chance of casting Spells of the this Circle, until the maximum of a 99% chance of success is reached. (Circles 1, 7 and 8 do not follow this guideline exactly).

Now, from what I understand..at GM magery on this shard it is 100% sure you will succeed on fourth circles etc.

Now, I have found some weird info on spell casting times, hopefully someone can clear it up for me:

http://web.archive.org/web/200003090612 ... pellsn.htm

This can also be listed on all other previous stratics dates throughout T2A, however I am too lazy to post these all so you will either have to take my word for it or check yourselves :D

Now I understand this doesn't fit the formula posted on stratics, but it is just strange that it is on at least 2 different pages (possibly more) throughout years (you think someone would have noticed, even a viewer?) and after the format was updated as well.

Just something to consider!

I have already talked to Hemp after this was posted, but I will still respond with the same information that I told him that we use in regard to this.

If you take a look at EA's actual web site for spells they list spell delays like this for all circles...
All 1st Circle spells cost 4 mana and take .5 seconds to cast
All 2nd Circle spells cost 6 mana and take .75 seconds to cast
All 3rd Circle spells cost 9 mana and take 1 second to cast
All 4th Circle spells cost 11 mana and take 1.25 seconds to cast
5th Circle spells cost 14 mana and take 1.5 seconds to cast (summoning spells have an added 6 second delay)
All 6th Circle spells cost 20 mana and take 1.75 seconds to cast
All 7th Circle spells cost 40 mana and take 2 seconds to cast
All 8th Circle spells cost 50 mana and take 2.25 seconds to cast

Reference: http://www.uoherald.com/guide/magic.php
Now the stratics formula uses ( 0.5 * Circle ) and UO suggests that the formula is ( 0.25 + ( Circle * 0.25 ) ) instead. This same formula is stated to be used all the way back to the UOR era. EA at one point even used the 0.5 formula in the earlier days... The obvious solution to this was to verify each system on the UO Demo. What we concluded was that the current formula based on the 0.25 per circle was used on the UO Demo too.

The formula's was changed to the 0.5 seconds before I came to this shard in September. This was obviously changed back to the 0.25 per circle system when it was obvious that the timings weren't that slow on the demo.

I recently concluded that the current system is in fact 100% correct with the demo. The way that I tested this was to record a video for each casting sequence for the spell circles. I loaded that video up with a video editor program to break each frame down into mili seconds. The 0.25 per circle was pretty much dead on. The program broke it down to 7/100 of a second, so it wasn't possible to get it down to the exact mili second but pretty damn close. However, we know that OSI used ticks in increments of 0.25 for their timers. The tests concluded that it was in fact 0.25 seconds per circle starting at 0.5 for the first.

Damn faust!

Nice work.

why doesn't it list the extra casting time for summoning spells like blade spirit, daemon, etc?
