Grandfathered Item Certification/Registry
Hello! The purpose of this post is twofold. First, I'd like to introduce the idea of a "Grandfathered Item Registry," perhaps a sticky post in this forum. The purpose of this registry would be to track the unique item serial numbers of grandfathered items to facilitate trading by reducing scamming and the number of "beat tests" required to safely transact business.
Secondly, I'd like to solicit volunteers and discussion regarding this. We will need a few trustworthy folks to run the certification process. The certification process would consist of anyone who wants to register an item, along with two witnesses from our team, conducting a thorough beat test in a controlled environment --the specifics of which will be determined at a future date and time.
The end result would be a controlled list of serial numbers of grandfathered items, which would allow folks to sell and resell items without further testing, and also help track items whose grandfathered status may have otherwise been forgotten.

Re: Grandfathered Item Certification/Registry
Finding every gf item is impossible. Finding even half of them is.

Cool idea
Even if you only find 5, at least those 5 won't have to be retested each time theyre sold.
If I get a pair, I'll see about getting them registered.

Leave it to a thief to not understand that anyone who is capable of buying gf items knows who has 99% of the gf items. Getting a volunteer group to get sheep to register items when it's common knowledge amongst the rich is redundant. Moreover, the only people that this would be applicable for are known scammers (esco/pak).Elk Eater wrote:Leave it to Vega to miss the point.Vega wrote:Finding every gf item is impossible. lmfao, yes.
There really is no point to this idea unless you get 100% of them Elk.
Or at least half, I guess.

Re: Grandfathered Item Certification/Registry
I guarantee that no one would buy a "gf" item without testing it. I could get a "gf" item from an IDOC, they feel comforted by this, and then burn them with a fake pair. Simple stuff. No one is going to buy without testing.
Novel idea though.

Yeah, it's "common knowledge amongst the rich" which items are GF'd and not, but 90 percent of transactions involving GF'd items require a beat test?Vega wrote:Leave it to a thief to not understand that anyone who is capable of buying gf items knows who has 99% of the gf items. How do you intend to burn someone with a fake pair?Vega wrote:I guarantee that no one would buy a "gf" item without testing it. I could get a "gf" item from an IDOC, they feel comforted by this, and then burn them with a fake pair. Simple stuff. No one is going to buy without testing.

Except the point of this is that I can look at the unique serial number of the sandals you put in the trade window and match it up with the serial number on the list of registered items. It would instantly show you are selling a different pair.
It seems you are still wildly missing the point. Each item in the game has a unique serial number that distinguishes it from every other item in the game. If an item gets registered, its serial number is recorded, then all anyone ever has to do to verify that it is the correct pair is match the numbers.

It seems YOU are wildly missing the point. No one is going to just click this thread and decide not to test an item.

Re: Grandfathered Item Certification/Registry
They still may want to re test. Nothing wrong with that.
But it will give some preliminary trust to an item. May even help with people who want to test, but dont want to test and lose the pair if it ends up being NON GF. Yeah you can do server wars but thats a small window extremely early!

Re: Grandfathered Item Certification/Registry
I'm glad you figured out that your original "I can still scam people with this system" avenue didn't make sense. People already trust brokers with large sums of money on a day-to-day basis, this is no different than having brokers for the deal, it just offsets the timing and gives more flexibility to the "brokers" of the system.Vega wrote:It seems YOU are wildly missing the point. I think if brokers can work, this can too -- if you disagree that's fine. As I mentioned before, we would need trustworthy traders (which immediately disqualifies you) to contribute to the maintenance of the system, which is who I am soliciting now.
