Neat idea, but cA fun waiting to happen.
No, they can't do that. Items are registered by their unique in-game serial number (you can discover this number via Razor). This will prevent a switch during the trade because you can validate the serial number of the item in the trade window against the list. It's actually useful for preventing scams.

Two questions:

1. How does a registry work? The world item number stays the same (checkable via razor) as long as it exists, so if the number matches up with the description then there is high confidence it's the same item?

2. How does one go about testing a GF item anyway? I get how to test for blessed items: just die with it. But how does one test for GF?

Always wondered why no one made a public listing like this. I've always kept a listing of every mask/sandal/clothing that I've been involved with, and I'm sure I'm not the only one. Mine isn't as thorough as I'd like, but it's good policy anyway. Don't want to accidentally trade-off the wrong pair. ;)

Would be even more of a time-saver to list confirmed non-gf items, so I would definitely include those in your efforts. Just keep in mind that the database will only be useful if the testers are quite trustworthy -- they should always be named with the item since the listing's value is directly tied to their credibility. Not a bad idea to also list methodology and how long they were tested for. I'd actually stay away from listing who owned the items since it could deter people from having them listed (I'm sure I'm not the only one who prefers not to list what all I have).

Whoever decides to do this is going to have their hands full during last-saves though. Especially if it's free/cheap.

personally i think its a cool idea as long as the person in charge of testing is a solid person like have 4 testers all you know non scammin morons and they have to put thier name to an item id etc

I'd assume that an RPV/video is taken of the beat test with constant check of the item's ID, the video/proof is then uploaded to the thread with the ID of the item so prospective buyers have a reference of the item.

Blessed items have significantly higher durability than regular items so the only way to verify that they will not break is to hit the item for a long period of time - this is what people refer to as a "beat test". The easiest way to conduct the beat test is:

• Gather 30 sheep
• Stack them on a single tile in a safe area
• Pin the sheep with tables
• Equip the sandals/mask/whatever on a character that has 0 wrestling (Alternatively give them a bow/wand/dagger if they have wrestling)
• Throw a storebought purple pot at the sheep while standing one tile adjacent
• Keep the character healed for the duration of the test (a GM healer + bonus healer is usually sufficient)

Takes about 5-10 mins to break non-GF'd blessed items so 15 minutes with 30 sheep is more than enough time.

Unfortunately this process will destroy non-GF'd items so it is best done during server wars. Here's a pic of the setup with an item tested for GF-ness breaking.

Server wars being the time after last save when you can basically try anything and the result is reset a few minutes later. Thanks for the explanation Soma!
