Do Items on boats decay?

I can't afford a house but I could afford a boat. Just wanted to know if stuff will stay put.

Suggestions on security? I guess every box needs to be too heavy to levitate.

Items on boats decay...rather quickly, and your hold is limited to 400 stones.

Anyone know how this works now? I stumbled upon this old thread and having seen a bunch of boats with items on them stay put for a long time I'm curious.

So as long as the boat is locked they're safe (provided that the boat key is secure somewhere)?

Items on boats can be picked up without boarding though if there's room for a boat to get alongside. I don't belive there is anywhere on a small boat than can't be reached. Larger boats have one or two unreachable tiles.
