Advice from experienced players

Post by Ash »

I wanted to get some general feedback from some of the players that are experienced with the game and with the server. Anyone's feed back is appreciated, if for some reason someone posts a tip or suggestion, please do not flame them. You can flame them on the trash talking forums, I just need some insight honestly. I know there was a post going on titled "so tired of losing all the time." And there was some great tips in there, but I think there are many small things that could help new people out that was not shared, maybe I am wrong.

A lot of people say there is not much field fighting going on on this server, and I can say there may be many players like me that want to pvp but really have no idea how to be good at it. Maybe someone can give some insight:

Does doing the Events help learn some of the pvp aspects?
How do you open up usually?
Are their certain combos that work great (spells, wands, pots, etc)?
Best way to interrupt spell casting?
What items should I carry with me (pots, wand, scrolls)?
What should I have hot keyed? Anything Razor can do to help me out?

Any general idea's would be well apperciated

I will preface my post by saying that I am by no means a great pvper, I am above average at best.
Does doing the Events help learn some of the pvp aspects?
I've only played a few CTFs, and the thing that strikes me right off the bat is that this is probably the only time you will fight unmounted, which changes things significantly. Nonetheless, it's a good opportunity to get your hotkeys down and to practice some of the basics, like combos, when to heal, using pots etc...
How do you open up usually?
Magic Arrow or Harm to get rid of reflect, Weaken, then I usually try to combo and get a hally hit in. If you're fighting a dexxer, keeping them poisoned through DP and spells is nice, but most people will be stocked with cures.
Best way to interrupt spell casting?
The only sure interrupt, I believe, is a debuff - weaken, clumsy or feeblemind.
What items should I carry with me (pots, wand, scrolls)?
Pots, pots, pots. At the least, GH and GCs. If you're a dexxer, Str and Dex pots are a must. Also, a half dozen trapped boxes is advisable.
What should I have hot keyed? Anything Razor can do to help me out?
All of your spells, heal and greater heal self, bandage self, all pots, set last target, queue last target, (un)/equip left hand and (un)/equip right hand.

Not really.

How do you open up usually?

Harm.

Are their certain combos that work great (spells, wands, pots, etc)?

All the simple combos work effectively...time your casts so you don't get tangled with cast delay...wand stacking is extremely effective with pots.

Best way to interrupt spell casting?

Guaranteed interupt = debuff

What items should I carry with me (pots, wand, scrolls)?

Equip yourself for the scenario. If you don't want to die bring anything and everything.

What should I have hot keyed? Anything Razor can do to help me out?

Everything you plan to use...

well i dont have a mage to pvp with but i will tell u my favorite hoktey setup because i think it does great and is logical. IF u make your own i suggest you dont use the hole range of the keboard just half or else you will have to move your hands around to much. u can use the keys u type with if you also use disable enable hotkeys in razor

mousewheelup-last target
mousewheeldown-target self
mousebutton3(when u click down the wheel)- next target(this is good for when ur running with a spell precasted u can just cycle to the guy your chasing and let it go without intterupting your movement)
i keep all the beneficial spells in a bunch at the top of my keyboard
f1-heal
f2 greater heal
f3 cure
f4 reactive armor
f5 magic reflect
f6 protection
f7 bless
then i keep all the harmful ones on the number keys
` key(at the left end of your number keys) magic arrow
1 lightning
2 poison
3 mind blast
4 energy bolt
5 explosion
6 paralyze
7 flame strike(is your going to use flamestrike u should use flame strike scrolls or else 15% percent fizzle chance)
space bar harm

next is items
q heal potion
w cure potion
e refresh potion
r explosion potions
t dress macro 1
y dress macro 2
u use item in hand

this is spells you use to get away from danger
a teleport
s wall of stone(dont use energy field it might fizzle and it cost to much mana, and people can just teleport over it)
d invisibility
f recall
g gate travel
h dispel
j dispel field

this is pretty much misc spells and debuffers

z feeblemind
x weaken
c clumsy
v mana drain( note this is for uor u wont need this on this shard ,and so u can change it out for mark or something that u cast alot)
b reveal
n energy vortex
m summon air elemental( i kept this from uo divinity i dont know if this is actually useful on this shard or not)

then i move to the alt keys for the last of the useful spells( u can switch these for things you use more than the given)
alt+
1 mark
2 blade spirits
3 ressurect
4 meteor swarm
5 earth quake

and also alt keys for some useful razor features under the misc section
alt +
q drop holding( good for looting )
w all names
e resynch client
r dismount
t accept party invitation
and another line of misc crap and also things used to prepare and blow pouches
alt +
a use once
s magic trap
d add to use once
f organizer agent
g set organizer agent bag
z restock agent
x take screen shot
c begin recording
v stop recording

And theres my macros in a nut shell if u need any more help u can pm me

That is a good idea. Unfortunately I learned using oddball macros so mine are all over my keyboard and since I know them so well I will be stuck with them for life because I can not adapt to anything else. By the way how to you talk in game?? You must have random spells firing off all the time when you try to chat lol.

yeah most people have odball ones they simply developed and stuck with them, but i decided to revise all of mine now i just need to learn them really well,
well to answer your question about chat theres a disable/enable hotkeys toggle hotkey at the top of the hotkeys list in razor i set mine to this key \ its right above my enter and i never use it anyways

hotkey lol
