TAMING Gains and animal lore

Post by BaronSengir »

Alright so it has been said that animal lore gm makes taming faster it has been said that animal lore 0 makes gains faster, and that it does not matter.

I am going to buy the initial 30 and time it from 30 to GM with 0 lore locked, does anyone want to gm lore and help me with this ?

So you are starting wit 30 taming? Should always start a tamer with 50 taming.. otherwise you are wasting your time taming deer and other stuff on Moonglow.

Things to consider:

A.) Some stat may adjust taming.
Yes this is true, there may be a stat that scales the taming (non-real) skill up. This is bad because that is what is used in taming checks. You want this to be as low as possible, especially at early levels. So plan your character to minimize this stat while GM'ing the skill.

B.) Lore has some effect on taming.
The sub-cases arise:
__I.) Lore has nothing to do with taming skill gains.

__II.) Positive Lore has a negative effect on the taming action. (harder to tame things)

__III.) Positive Lore has a positive effect on the taming action. (easier to tame things)

I.) doesn't matter.
II.) is very unlikely, after all, tamers need the skill.
III.) This is very possible. Lore could make it easier to tame things. Particularly higher level things.

So really the only things that can effect skill gain rate are an associated stat, and (possibly) the lore skill. If you GM the skill with the lowest possible Stat and Lore skill, you can't go wrong. So I think, regardless of the conflicting opinions, you should GM taming with 0 Lore and the lowest of it's associated stat, at least until very high levels of the skill when stat-adjustment doesn't make a significant difference anymore.

---------------------------------------------------------

Starting with 30 taming isn't a huge deal. You can macro it up fairly quickly in the low levels. If you are doing something like Taming, Magery, Blacksmithy...

You should definitely start with Blacksmithy and Magery, since taming is free, and macroable, but gaining these other two skills to 50 can cost you money.

-----------------------------------------------

Again,
Having more lore cannot possibly make it harder to tame. That's contrary to the use of the skill. Therefor, it must either have no effect, or boost taming ability. Since you want taming to be more difficult, so you can tame easier-skill-requirement animals/monsters for longer times, it's always beneficial to have 0 Lore. Though, less beneficial when Taming reaches the mid 90's.
