It's sad that people base the active population on the amount of people they see squatting at the bank DOING NOTHING (or next to). While I always thought the crowd at WBB was one of the cooler social aspects of the game, I also hated it at the same time, and would usually make Vesper or some other city my hometown just to get away from that group, only going there when looking to buy/sell items (kinda like EQ had the East Commonlands Bazaar every Saturday, if anybody knows about/remembers that).Gork wrote:Having taken the time to answer questions from new players (in game and on the forums) I've been asked the same question a few times. "500+ players? Where is everyone?" I then take the time to explain that this shard is filled with people who like to play the game and aren't bank squatters. The population is spread out ... doing its thing. I think I have managed to keep a few extra players here just by taking the time to explain this to them. One guy logged before he listened to what I had to say. He said, " to the next server then." Only because the WBB was dead. Anyways.. we can help by taking the time to talk to new players in game and explain what makes this server so awesome!
In all honesty, if they decided to move on to the next server just because there wasn't enough people sitting at the bank, then they maybe didn't belong here in the first place. But as was stated, since a lot of players are using 2-3 accounts at a time, I suppose it wouldn't hurt to leave one of your characters around the bank to give people that imagery of a populated bank area. That way while you are out actually playing on another account, you can look over once in a while and if some random newbie is asking questions, you can be there to answer for them, and hopefully encourage them to stick around.
