Is There a Place for Role Play
Is There a Place for Role Play
Opening a topic for discussion out of curiosity.
I see guild recruitment after recruitment looking for PvPers, some for crafters and only rarely one interested in Role Play. Even most of the RP guilds are looking for PvP troops for one reason to another. From local defense through piracy.
Don’t get me wrong. I’m here for the PvP. Not so much as an active participant, as for the pure rush that comes from somebody trying to put a whack on you. Since I joined here I’ve died twice to blue PvPers. The second time it took me a week before I could put my trembling head out the door and run for the woods.
Years back my favorite memories from Sonoma are PvP related. Don’t remember the dungeon, but the guild was deep down, probably 12 of us and 4 troops from 409 hit us. Panic everywhere, gates and recalls. Funny to look back on though the dead left behind were not laughing.
Another time ore pirates tried to rob me. I got loose and made it all the way back to Minoc before they got me. That running battle is without question one of my top 3 memories of the game.
So anyway I’m a runner and a crafter, not a fighter. But I love the spice.
My question though is why there are no RP guilds and activities like there used to be. Or rather so few. Everything from cock fights to cow tipping contests. I organized some great DM assisted quests back in the days for the Keepers of the Light (KTL). Can we do something like that here?
That said (or asked) there is some great stuff going on. The orcs are impressive, the floating market also creates some great atmosphere. There have been some good things, but it seems that they are rare.
Is there a place for or interest in RP/PvM groups that want to get together and explore the world, have guild auctions and contests, work with others for festivals, hold jousts, barding contests or whatever.

Re: Is There a Place for Role Play
I am sure that there are some players who want to participate in that kind of thing. If there is no existing guild for that assorted role playing, why don't you start one just make sure to give it a cool name, who knows I might even join.Stormsong wrote:Opening a topic for discussion out of curiosity.

Probably not exactly what you are looking for... but Bloodrock Orcs are pretty fun. They aren't really a jousting or barding contest type of guild but clomping humies and crazy orcs, as well as killing a few 'mares, is actually rather cool.Stormsong wrote:Opening a topic for discussion out of curiosity.

Like any community you have to build it from the ground up. Bloodrock Orcs use to be active, they aren't so much anymore as far as I can tell. They are RP/PVP because they fight Order/Chaos wars.Stormsong wrote:Opening a topic for discussion out of curiosity.

Since the number of people on this shard is limited and the number of Rp'ers is very small.... The best outcome would be to have an open minded evil rp guild and a good rp guild to war against. I'd leave it open so evil characters could roleplay anything from an orc, undead, zombie, vampire, dark elf or just an evil human in general etc....
Likewise for as good guild i.e. Humans, Elves etc...
Unless there are a lot rp'ers I don't see the need for multiple evil guilds or good guilds.
I use to roleplay on Catskills in the Undead. I don't have the time to run a guild although I'd be interested in creating an Undead character.
Re: Is There a Place for Role Play
I would be interested in that sort of thing. I'm not a pvper but I really love
old UO.

Re: Is There a Place for Role Play
I like the Good vs Evil guilds idea. Maybe make your own town (without help from GMs) and call it Tristram. Yes.. sounds good.. Evil leader needs to be Diablo.. maybe Cain for the Good leader.. this is beginning to work out very well! Add more ideas! I will gladly lend any services and help!

Re: Is There a Place for Role Play
I think that a competitive relationship between two guilds is a good idea. Again though, we have PvP rearing it's head, but some right thinking people could come up with a way to have fun between the two sides without people ending up getting heated up and ending up in a battle to the death of everyone.Unlimited Bladeworks wrote:The best outcome would be to have an open minded evil rp guild and a good rp guild to war against.
Perhaps if people were willing to use words or when it came to organized battle follow a no looting/no reporting deaths rule it might just work.

It would be cool to have battles between two standing armies. War status with other rp guilds other allows us to all participate in RP events without worrying about counts.Stormsong wrote:I think that a competitive relationship between two guilds is a good idea. On Catskills we had Rues of Engagement that all rp guilds honored.
No looting was included and was strictly enforced.
You were suppose to rp before outright attacking an enemy roleplayer.
And a few other rues.
I think Yew/Skara Brae area is a good spot to have the locations of the two guilds. Good guild outside of Skara and Evil somewhere south or southeast of Yew.
Both guilds should have some type of rank structure for advancement as a reward for dedication of older members.

Okay then. I think there is enough interest here to move this discussion to the guild recruiting forum. Check this URL.
