Re: Ogre Loot Chest
why even bid anything under 700?
I guess maybe you all think that if he doesn't get the reserve posted he will take less anyway? I thought the point of a reserve was to say "i WILL NOT take less than this" haha

Re: Ogre Loot Chest
^ i agree .. but why start an auction lower than your reserve? .. and if you did, why have a reserve at all?

Reserve means he reserves the right to not sell if the reserve isn't met.

says the fk 700k for a metal chest

Re: Ogre Loot Chest
and how often is it sold under reserve amount? .. almost never .. so why not start at the lowest youd go?Metastasis wrote:Reserve means he reserves the right to not sell if the reserve isn't met.
otherwise you could end up with 2 or so pages of bids, only to not have your reserve met, and no sale made.

Two pages of bids then original post edited eight times to reflect a different ending condition for the sale.
Let the one without sin cast the first stone (Let's all leave sultan's conditions alone). They aren't even the most ridiculous I've seen this week.

Re: Ogre Loot Chest
Its pretty standard auction practice really?!
maybe not on these forums but in the real world - guess some of you aint been there in a while
its partly to guage interest,
a starting bid is a starting bid - just to get it going
a reserve is a reserve - the minimum that will be accepted as a winning bid
do i need to explain what a buyout is?
If people want to interpret a starting bid as a minimum bid thats fine - I often do this myself, but if its a higher end item where there are only going to be a few people interested its sometimes better to stick in a reserve with a lower starting bid to see what interest there is.
Imagine the scenario - a real life auction - an old stuffed bird - catalogue valuation (£100-£300) - auctioneer starts the bidding: "lets start the bidding at £300, do I hear £300" (silence) "£300, £300, do I hear £300" (silence) "£300, £300, no bidders?" - NO SALE
wtf? not like any auction ive ever been to?
