GuardianKnight, I agree with some of things you wrote, but the way you write descriptions of the server sounds very bleak and defeatist. I don't think this can be very attractive to others wanting to catch a glimpse of what they might be getting themselves into. Granted, full disclosure, I get it, but is there anything positive to add rather than hammering home on all the negatives? :-/

In years past, my goto positive was "the community". I feel kind of defeated on that part.

Here are a couple positives.

The staff:

In previous years, staff did what they could with their free time. Our current generation staff is nearly always available one way or another (irc or forums)

Some players worth playing with:

2 out of 5 players here will be like you. 1 out of 5 will be different, but likely won't conflict with your personality. 2 out of 5 will completely hate everything that you are about.

The Era:

If you like this era and nothing before or after, this is the place for you. There will never be any new additions added here, based on the whims of the population.

No Item bless deeds:

So, if you accidentally kill 1 out of those 10 pks that come at you, and somehow loot a halbard, it will most likely be vanq and yours ( if you escape).

Wealth and items:

If you put out the effort, you will get rich. Get rich and you will accumulate things. You too can have an ego. You can feel like you have won the game.

IDOCs:

By far, the easiest job in the game. Get a group of buddies, set an automated macro....have your buddies defend your loot. Keep in mind that this is also the dirtiest, most POS, filled, job in the game. No one likes a scavenger. You will become rich and accumulate an ego based on nothing, but it will be your ego....so it's ok.

Annual events:

Christmas, Server anniversary, Halloween (sometimes you get something, depending on political affiliation of staff member...conservative vibe), St. patrick's day (kill rainbow lovers and get themed loot), Fourth of July (when t hey remember).

note** The events listed here all seem pointless to some, but when they happen, it shows that the staff actually cares. When they are skipped or forgotten, we lose a kind of momentum. If you do something in the past, every year, it is usually expected the next. Tradition is important.

Let's get back to the real way to get players to return and to retain them: automated events. We have a great foundation of era accurate mechanics. there's nothing wrong with bringing back a successful system that added so much to this great server.

id pop a boner if they brought back auto events to bad its not "era accurate" and "people were able to rez in stat in the tourny rooms" or a better one "why do you only wanna pvp in a trammel setting" lol i can go on but its pointless they wont listen because they dont actually play the game they play from a game masters perspective so its like fuck it

This server suffers from social issues.
I look down from a half filled small house of mongbat treasure. All these years and I still suck. :( I need more play time.

Agreed. I still log from time to time.

Although I am unable to log consistently now and for the foreseeable future (at least a full month).
I did manage a few minutes this week, and noticed some nice homes not to expensive (always wanted a Moonlgow home), but did not contact seller because I cannot refresh it and maintain it.

That was the perfect era, even if It's sad you can't do decent dungeon runs because of PKs (part of the era so fine, I just don't fell like I wanna deal with it).

Love the community, and the criticism that is given to people, even if harsh sometimes is usually warranted.
Looking forward to playing heavily later... possible near summer as my friend is planning a return.
Hopefully we'll have some spots to place our tower (already bought deed)... heh nice to dream.

See you guys around !

A possible solution to the housing problem may be, that the more houses you own the faster they decay. So, if you own 15 houses you have to log in everyday to refresh them. If you own one house then normal decay (and combinations of everything in between).
Another possible solution is that only the owner of the house can refresh it so that you don't have people's friends refreshing houses for players that quit a long time ago.

Games go through the "new kid on the block" syndrome to palliative care as players move from game to game. Once populations start to drop its very difficult if not impossible to get them back to their original status. Some games die faster than others. Eventually the pop plateaus at the bottom and will remain about the same until the company or person decides its no longer economically viable and kills it out right. The die hards will always keep it going no matter what the population is. So I guess people need to decide is this the place where they want to hang their hat or are they going to move on to other things

I can't lie, I love the housing argument. If you want something, like everything in this game... go out and get it. You'll lose until you win. If you're not winning, it's not a single persons fault but your own.

Yea I have to agree here.
Houses aren't really that expensive and farming in uo has always been the lulz. I'm mr anti farm and even I was able to obtain a tower in a week just by farming on my bar for like an hour a day.

how about t2a just make the transition to renaissance like back in 2002 or so. then we can all quit when everything changes. derrick can start a new server called uosa 2 and we can all start over from scratch. that seems to be era accurate too.
