THE SIMPLE EXPLANATION: I am giving away all the gold to help encourage events, community, shard building and the like. Apply if you have some idea on how to do this but lack the necessary means.

1. What is the SCBA?

The SCBA was founded in April of 2009 to promote player interaction and, paradoxically, to make the game both less and more fun. It began with a generous donation from the B_D guild of UOSA. It is currently run by chumbucket of the cA guild. Donations are accepted to shore up the Society's financing.


2. What does the SCBA do?

The SCBA attempts to promote player interaction by giving grants to those who need assistance in their own endeavors to increase player interaction or practice the bardic arts. The SCBA may occasionally run its own events.

There are two types of grants: Knightly Grants and Bardic Grants.

Knightly Grants provide monetary assistance to those who seek to help the shard grow.

Bardic Grant provide monetary assistance to those who make it their mission to annoy, steal from, cheat or scam other players.


3. How do I apply for a grant?

PM chumbucket on the forums with the following information: (1) grant type, (2) total gold requested, (3) a general description (including time and location for events), (4) an account of how this would promote the Society's goals and (5) an itemized expense list. The title of your PM should be "Grant Application."

GRANT APPLICATION FAQ

Q: What sorts of things are likely to be funded?

A: Anything that either helps the shard or promotes thievery, death and chaos. For example, a guild dedicated to new players might ask for gold to construct new facilities dedicated to building the characters of new players.

Q: How much gold can I get from a grant?

A: There is no minimum or maximum. Smallers grants are more likely to be awarded. Large grants would have a heavy burden to show their value to the shard or roguery, plus they would need provide some means of garuanteeing that the gold would be spent as promised.

Q: What will the Society not fund?

A: For one, we do not give gold to help players get started. (I R NEW GLD PLS is not a viable application.) Nor will we simply give you gold to make your game time easier. Promote the shard's growth, not just your own.

4. How can I help the SCBA?

PM chumbucket on the forums if you would like to donate gold or help administer the Society. Donations will be noted on the list of donors below. Donations may be directed towards use only on either Knightly or Bardic Grants if desired.

I would see bards as those who desire to improve the playing environment by providing entertainment, activities, tourneys and opportunities for players to immerse themselves in the game.

May I suggest that you change chumbucket's Society for Chivalry and the Bardic Arts to chumbucket's Society for Chivalry, Knavery and the Bardic Arts. The Grant of Knavery replacing the Bardic Grant and the Bardic Grant being focused on the above suggested skills.

In that theme, may I suggest the below charter, (borrowed from a forum and author long lost to me) The charter is tongue in cheek but the change is one I sincerely support.

• Charter of chumbucket's Society for the Bardic Arts
  (incorporating bards, minstrels, troubadours, dancers, singers, diabolists, poets, jugglers, musicians, drunks, more drunks, sword swallowers, fire walkers, storytellers, belly dancers, choralists and drama queens)
  
  We, the Society, being suitably bribed and thoroughly drunk do give charter to the above mentioned guild to form and operate in our fair realm of Britain. This guild being subject to the conditions and charter laid out below and the annual payment of 10% (NET) of the profits.
  
  Terms and Conditions
  
  1.0 The Guild shall encompass all entertaining folk as reside in the realm of Britain excepting mimes and line dancers who shall be ritually tortured for the amusement of others.
  
  2.0 The guild shall have three ranks of achievement recognizing the talents of those who hold them. The ranks are:
  
  • Apprentice : Anyone wanting to join the guild and who can be readily rolled of any loose change or is ready to buy the guild a round at the tavern and might show some talent of some form (Buying rounds is to be considered a legitimate talent)
    
    Drunkard : Anyone who can perform coherently whist imbibing the guild required 3 liters of booze during a single evening. Some advanced level of skill is required to be shown, i.e. a Talent for rolling apprentices for loose change or the ability to badger the populous into buying rounds for the Guild by threatening to sing endless verses of "The Volga Boatman" until they relent.
    
    Guildmeister : Anyone who has achieved renown for Drunkenness or for services to Alcoholism and Tavernology, or anyone prepared to buy the entire guild’s drinks for one night at Festival. An exemplary level of talent is expected to be shown by candidates including the ability to keep double entry ledgers thus depriving the Society of its 10%, being able to out drink guild Drunkards whist reciting "A Grazing Mace" and the unique talent of getting the Society to pick up the Guild Bar Tab.
  
  
  3.0 All members shall periodically be required to review this charter in the prescribed fashion to ensure it still meets the needs of its members.
  
  • 3.1 The prescribed fashion shall be a large drinking competition held at 12th night. The winner getting to add or modify any one clause they see fit to do so and are sober enough to dictate, write or slur at the immediate end of aforesaid contest.

With the growing popularity of kitchen celebrities and their endless production of culinary-related media for television broadcasting, there have been increasing instances of slang typically relegated to the kitchen slipping into mainstream vernacular. The term "baller" is one such instance. The etymology of the word stems from the menial task of scooping "balls" of fruit with this implement:



It produces perfectly bite-sized spheres of fruit for a wide variety of uses, such as garnishes or fruit salads. To be relegated the title of "baller" is to imply that one lacks skill and must therefore perform tedious tasks, often to the mocking laughter of one's peers.
