Odd how it worked that coal turned out to be the better present. I'm sure this was before T2A and yet it existed as a special item throughtout T2a for those who recieved it.
That's ranger armor, currently only available as a event trophy turn-in

Green armor was amazing.

As a side note, the hues posted in the armor pic were in T2A even after colored ore was introduced, we used to collect sets of it. The evil mage armor was a lot of hues, then something happened, I don't remember what and it was down to a handful of hues. Some of the older hues were really, really valuable later on in the game.

Coal armor was definitely craftable after given out as a holiday gift on OSI in 1999. I remember attempting to craft a piece after spending all my gold buying coal ingots and failing. I was pretty sad when I found out it wasn't smeltable here, since I bought some coal from people and saved about 20 piles, only to find that I couldn't smelt it. I don't see what harm could be done by making it smeltable...even if all 500 players received 3 piles of coal each, thats a total of 3k coal ingots that would be available to the entire shard. That's like 20ish sets of armor that could be made out of it, so it'd be a pretty sweet rare.

It was and on my inactive OSI accounts that is one of my rares, GM made set of coal armor. If I remember correctly the smith quit when UO:R was implemented. It was a husband and wife team and ingame friends of mine.
