Lottery

Post by BlackFoot »

i am looking for suggestions on how to hold a lottery
the purpose of which would be just the amount of gold raised to sustain the museum statues, so whatever it is would need to be sold on the vendors themselves

100-500gp tickets or somthing every other week, hold a draw with a a prize of somekind

i have heard the suggestion of putting the actual prize in crates and sell the crates, but at server down they can buy them all and find the winners, then buy at server up
and i thought of writing codes in books and selling the books, but peopel could copy the books to greif the process

does anyone have any good ideas?
i would like to actually hold a draw and announce the winnign ticket as opposed to the whole thing being automated
wether holding the draw be pulling a random item out of a bag by a thief, number generator, or somthing o this sort

Put the prize in a locked chest at your house. Sell a bunch of keys. Only one of them will open the chest. All the others are duds. Sell all the keys. On lottery day, give the buyers access to the chest. Who ever bought the correct key will be able to open the chest.

Downside is, it could take a while for people to cycle through the line trying their keys. But, we wouldn't be talking days.

If all the keys are not sold, and the correct key was not purchased, add new keys to the vendor and roll the prize over to the next week.

If you are worried about someone picking the lock, have the player hand his keys over to an official who then tries each key on the chest.

Instead of putting the prize in there just have the box and keys and whoever bought the winning key gets the prize. That way you don't have to worry about a lockpicker stealing it.

My idea would be to buy several dice and sell enteries for 500g or whatever you choose. Then let people roll. Whoever has the highest roll wins. If several people roll a 10 or tie at 9 or w/e then let them roll again. Down to one winner. This idea isn't great I know because it would take awhile and alot of attention. It is just an idea I'm throwing out. Looking forward to the "lottery". Sounds like fun.

I'd say that books would be the way to go. Buy a book with a confirmation code. That confirmation code along with numbers chosen by the player would then be sent to the person having all the confirmation codes to confirm that it's a valid entry. That way players would be able to choose their own numbers and not just a random chance to pick the "right" box on a vendor. There would be no point in copying books since the confirmation code could only be used once, and that is when a message containing that confirmation code has been sent to the person in charge of receiving the entries (numbers chosen by the player).

Entries could be sent by PMs on the forums or in IRC, and possibly even in-game chat if both parties are available at the same time.

The person in charge of receiving entries would note the Player stating a correct confirmation code along with the numbers of the players choice and would after the drawing also know who won the lottery (if any).

Of course, before the drawing of the numbers the remaining books would have to be withdrawn from the vendor to make sure no one has bought books during the server restart and used any non-purchased confirmation codes.

It would also be fun it was in fact a "real" lottery. Say, 5 numbers are to be drawn, entries have 5 numbers between 1-30.

Prizes go to 2-5 correct numbers:
2 correct numbers = 50% of ticket fee
3 correct numbers = 100% of ticket fee
4 correct numbers = 1000% of ticket fee
5 correct numbers = 5000% of ticket fee

Or something like that, just made the numbers up, but u get where I'm goin' with this.
