Little slow

Post by Goose »

I was just wondering if anyone knows maybe how to fix it if it can be fixed at all.

Basically my problem isn't very big, but would like to ask if anyone had this and has been able to correct it. i have a fairly new computer, like 1 year old. Pentium dual core 2.4GHZ with windows XP and 2GB of RAM. Much more then what is needed to run this game, however every like 2 - 3 steps i take there is the tinyest of pauses. i believe this is the case most times, but i am just slightly slower then many people i can see on the server. And i mean just, but still it bothers me. My brother plays the game as well and his computer isn't as good as mine, but does again go way over the required needs to run this game and even he runs just a little better then me. Does anyone know how i might fix this? the difference is very slight, but i think could make a difference especially in combat. i also have a GeForce 9800 GTX graphics card in my machine. in every way should have next to 0 issues and should run around in the game very very smoothly. Does or has anyone had this problem and been able to fix it? I think everyone has a slight pause after like 2 or 3 steps, but mine is just a bit slower.

i should also mention that my brother and I live together and run off the network we set up in our place, so i don't think this is an internet issue as we both use the same internet connection.

Computers now-a-days are going to be extremely sufficient for playing UO. When UO First came out, the requirements were something around a 233Mhz MMX cpu, which was raised to 800MHZ shortly after. As far as your hardware's performance goes, I doubt there is any issue there.

On the other hand, you can check the state of your connection. For a quick glance, go to a command prompt and type "ping -t uosecondage.com" without the quotes. Watch the reply times and see if they are consistent or if they fluctuate. Just because your brothers work fine does not eliminate the possibility of a network related issue. Could be your network card, (yes even if it's on-board they can also go bad) it could be your cable, a slight short or shielding problem in the 3/6 pair if your using 1GBPS network switch/hub. If your using wireless, that can be a HUGE contributor, interference, WiFi hub trying to re-negotiate too fast, many more things about WiFi can impact performance.

If your using razor, some players have reported that turning "Smart CPU Reduction" off in razor helps.

Then there is the obvious stuff, and that is programs running in the background. Turn everything that is not necessary off before playing. Personally, I even turn my antivirus off while I play (i do this with any game I play), unless i'm going to do some browsing/downloading in the background while i'm playing.

Thanks for the quick reply. i will check some of the other things and try some of your suggestions. I actually work at an IT company and have had nic onboard checked and there seems to be no issue there. i will try the rest and see how it goes like the commands. thanks, i'll post what i find out
