Official word on town improvements

Post by Safir »

Do you think there should be an official notice from staff once a town improvement has been approved?

I would like to petition for official staff word once a player ran town is improved in some way. After the player have voted on the matter and staff begins to improve on the town, official word should be issued to announce an improvement being fully approved and implemented (or that it's going to be implemented).

This would help keep track of what improvements have been passes and will or have been built. This way, players not actively checking back on a thread or topic can still see if/when an improvement has been approved.

I am in full support of this. As a community member who trys to contribute to these request threads as often as I see them, it would be really interesting to see where certain requests end up as well as provide a gauge for what type of future improvement requests are reasonable.

Voted no =(, Mainly because of griefing. For example, if a town is getting a dock built, and its announced, all players have to do is go and place a boat at where said dock is being placed, or a house on where roads/fences will be placed. It's alright to make the notice AFTER said item gets built, but not before.

In response to that I'd say that it wouldn't be a closely bonded player ran town/village/establishment if there is room for a random person to pop a house where the add-ons are planned. And that it thus wouldn't be qualified for any add-ons in the first place. About boats being placed where a dock is planned, well, the GMs can easily just move that boat slightly to the side and perhaps even put it at the docks when finished.

Moving a boat would be no different than moving a house, my friend.

I don't understand why it wouldn't?

A House is a solid object that sits in one place.

A boat can be moved around and is also used for traveling and relocating.

So what you are saying is that moving a boat (that has virtually unlimited space to be located on, the open seas without any obstacles, and is regularly used as the means of transportation and relocation on water), is the same as moving a house (fairly limited space, especially in a specific area and with obstacles that can hinder placement)?

I'd be delighted if someone where to move a boat I own from sitting on a shore where some docks are planned to the actual finished docks! Talk about purrfect location! ;)

On a side note, if a player ran town/village/establishment is in fact present, active and "established", and finds themselves in need of a dock, one would think that the shore would already be packed full of boats, thus the need of the docks. So moving boats shouldn't be that big of a concern.

GM's are not supposed to interfere with game play. Seeing as griefing is allowed in many shapes and forms, someone could place a boat somewhere to prevent said guild from getting said enhancement to there town. Building addons for towns doesn't exactly effect the gameplay, as much as preventing someone griefing, is what i meant good sir.

Safir,

We lost a well established player run town in just this fashion. TW had a player run town with GM add-ons. Another player dropped a house right near the center of their town, under cut their vendor prices and demanded money to move. All this is within game play.

The guild and town leadership, rather than copitulate to the demands, folded. That was nearly 6 months ago and we are only now starting to see some of those players return.

I think it's sufficient to post a public application and then, if the addition is built, post a public annoucement. Posting anything in between would just invite greif play.

I understand what you're both getting at, but I just don't think that "griefing" is a valid reason for not announcing an approved town add-on before completion.

As a matter of fact, I don't even oppose an announcement to be made after an improvement has successfully been completed. Please look at a quote from my first post in this topic (highlighted):
Safir wrote:I would like to petition for official staff word once a player ran town is improved in some way. As you can see, I'm only suggesting that it should be announced and I'm not in favor of any particular details on when that announcement would be made.

But I would say that I still stand by my previous statement, that in my opinion, perhaps a town/village/establishment shouldn't be eligible for improvements if it's so empty that a random "griefer" can pop a house in the middle of the place in question, and do fully support all "legal" aspects of game-play, even if it's to be a douche.

Well, look at Turtle Bay for example, it's farrrr from empty, but there will always be room for griefers to do things, quite a few guilds have placed small-2 stories in turtle bay, to try and grief or to have as a safe house when pvping to store loot or house hide in

No matter how big the town is, there will always be room for some sort of griefing, many people told us that they would of griefed our arena if they had known it was being built (like four people knew that was it)

I see what you're saying, and if you reword it to making announcements after said addon has been completed, then I'll happilly change my vote to yes, but not until then!

I totally see your reasoning behind both directions btw

Well, it's just a suggestion right now, more here to let staff know that the players would like to know the status of town/village/establishment improvements. It's basically up to staff to decide when such an announcement would be made. Seeing as the recent discussion has been about when and not if an announcement should be made, I think they'll consider the timing of the announcement depending on the add-on, or focus on the "griefer"-free timing.

So I won't change my original suggestion since it's a decision left up to staff. In the original post I'm merely suggesting two different solutions.

But I'm happy that we can at least agree on that announcements should be made, and that's really what this poll is about, so I'd still suggest you vote for Yes, to push the core idea of the suggestion forward.

I'd really prefer to have the townfolk make their own announcements. Maybe a town opening event or the like.
We are not as organized as you think, and we work on this stuff as we can, but there's very little about it that could be considered structured :(
