Resist for Bards
Resist for Bards
How important is resist when facing the big pvm targets here? I'd like to make a very PvM bard with:
Magery
Meditation
Musicianship
Provocation
Peacemaking
Lock Picking
Cartography
Since I still have an overpowered tambourine I should be okay without resist magic right?

Re: Resist for Bards
I like the template. The goal of this character is not to tank or take any damage at all since you will have provocation and peacemaking. I think you can easily sacrifice the resist as you will still be able to gheal yourself if you happen to get aggro briefly.

My provo template:
Magery
Med
Music
Prov
Hide
Stealth
LockPick

Stealth
LockPick
Re: Resist for Bards
either way i think you'd be successful.
I just made a basic thunter with the normal:
Magers
Med
L-pick
Cart
provo
music
hide
Can farm anything pretty much well. I do like the stealth, kinda wish i could get that in

At least for a while on OSI, peacemaking stopped aggro from monsters for something like 5-10 seconds, it was great. I am not sure about era accuracy, but here, peacemaking has a very short reset timer, and an even shorter suspension of aggro from mobs. I had peacemaking on my bard, only to drop it because I found resist more useful all around. I imagine this is even more true if you plan on soloing Tmaps - you can only provo so much, and the prospect of 3 flamestrikes in a row is not unlikely.

Ah I didnt know that about here. Good point. If peacemaking is still as easy to skill up as I remember I'll just have to try it out for myself.Lothain wrote:At least for a while on OSI, peacemaking stopped aggro from monsters for something like 5-10 seconds, it was great. Re: Resist for Bards
Keep in mind peacemaking and provocation are on the same cooldown timer. Peacemaking here is AOE based, not single target based and it only lasts a few seconds.
If I were you, I would drop peacemaking and pick up either resist or hiding. The reason resist "could" be important is because if you are facing 3-4 mobs, there will be 6-8 seconds of you not being able to provoke the other mobs. A couple Flamestrikes and Ebolts on you in that 6 second period = OOoOo oOo
Or you could go the third route and pick up healing instead of resist or hiding.

Re: Resist for Bards
Healing requires anatomy to be useful, correct? Else it's akin to Magery without Eval Int?Or you could go the third route and pick up healing instead of resist or hiding.
But yea, agreed with everything else ironfist said. I am in the process of dropping peacemaking in favor of resist on my bard as we speak. I have no idea about era accuracy, but I am definitely not a fan of it here. It seems to buy about 1-2 seconds before the monsters re-aggro, and since the cooldown is shared with every other activated skill, there's nothing too useful you can do in that timeframe except attempt to cast Invisibility or Recall.
Resist isn't needed to bard, but it certainly makes life easier, especially when breaking up camps of 4+ monsters. If you are going for the full treasure hunter suite, you probably can't work Resist in, but if you're going for a strict bard, it is definitely worth consideration. Plus, it gives you a chance at not being one-rounded by PKs.

T-Hunter: http://my.uosecondage.com/player.aspx?id=6468
I use resist.
Silex pretty much hit it. Peacemaking is overall useless. I'm not that into hiding either, as I think the invis spell works just as well -- especially when precast.

Definite truth. Also, since you intend to do tmaps, bear in mind that the initial spawn is pretty nasty. Having an army of liches and gazers aggro on you at the same time is a pretty good argument for resist.Plus, it gives you a chance at not being one-rounded by PKs.
Re: Resist for Bards
my tmap hunter has done level 5's alone with no resist when u could do level 5's at 80 lol
