SHOULD MAGERY BE ALLOWED IN ONE TOWN?
Re: SHOULD MAGERY BE ALLOWED IN ONE TOWN?
Stupidest poll ever, go to bucs! No guards, and magic is allowed! Why do you have to stay in a guarded town to do pvp.
And you are contradicting yourself saying people who vote no are trammies lol. People who vote no are going to bucs, like it was before Trammel.

Another post on the same subject headed straight for the trash talk forums. This kid is on a roll.

Maybe, there could be monthly automated city invasions, which are era accurate. ((Not so much on the monthly, but the fact there were city invasions)) These always get a lot of attention...

I don't remember magic not doing damage in-town on OSI. Might just be my memory.

At least change the angle so people can't see where my characters are. Fire/IPBan anyone who plays my characters too plz. KThxBai.

Yeah, one city for a weekend each month? Trinsic would be a blast.Zim wrote:Maybe, there could be monthly automated city invasions, which are era accurate. ((Not so much on the monthly, but the fact there were city invasions)) These always get a lot of attention...

Yeah I definitely remember fighting massed lizardmen on the bridge south of Brit Bank back in 1998. Would be pretty cool to have triggered invasion events like that here.

Re: SHOULD MAGERY BE ALLOWED IN ONE TOWN?
Actually I have seen some of the best PvP in town. The wilds is a place for oppurtunity kills. It takes a real man to turn himself grey and walk before a barrage of blues rather then hide as a red and wait for the newb, badly wounded, or solitaire who has been caught unaware and unprepared for a come out of nowhere attack from a charging red blip on the screen who had been waiting for that moment.Hernando_Kortez wrote:Funny how Kinarah also started a thread about how the shard is being filled with trash players. Its people like him that are lowering the tone of the shard. Try stating your arguments in less reactionary way and perhaps leave words like "faggot" out of it. Then people might listen better...
The bottom line about fighting inside the guardzone is that it has always been and always will be a horrible place to pvp. Real pvp happens in the wilderness or dungeons. If what you want is more controlled guild vs guild pvp why not just get in touch with the other pvp guilds and arrange it?
On another note: People who are pussies and househide/recall all the time will find a way to be like that wherever they fight. Allowing spelldamage in one town wont change that.

Re: SHOULD MAGERY BE ALLOWED IN ONE TOWN?
PvP outside town doesn't have to be about pking newbies. Quite a lot of farmers these days are tooled up for fighting, not all just recall when a pk appears on their screen. Some also have the ability to call backup out to where they are farming and thus group pvp happens. I find group pvp in dungeons way more interesting because of the layouts and the factor spawn plays.
I was kinda put off town pvp because of them letting reds go in town on siege perilous. It seemed like a good idea at first but all it did was concentrate the pvp more and more around brit bank. Both town and dungeon pvp have their weak points but I would choose spawn and dungeon entrance twinking over guardzone abuse, blue healers, theives and opportunist randoms getting involved. Town pvp also misses out on the involvement of red characters and field spells.
That said, I am in favour of more town invasions where guards get switched off etc. We actually had a trinsic invasion here on T2A a while back and it made trinsic good for pvp for a while.

Can somebody provide evidence showing that magic only did 1 damage in town back in 99?

This shard seems to have a profound prejudice against mages with nullifying the skills that benefit magery except evaluating intelligence. Are the spell descriptions written as is in our spellbooks not the way it was?
If it remains in towns that magery is hampered...are there any high magic areas such near the shrines or moongates? Why is it that even in towns that are supposedly where the magic arts are highly studied that magery is subdued? How about the star cycles that one peers at through their newbie telecopes? Shouldn't they have a part to play in magery besides just moongate destinations?
And if not give us the history of why this is not so, even though magic words are muttered by nearly all if not the entirety of Britannia even slightly such as Recdu or Recsu?
Ummmm UO lore wise, dark magic was taken out of all the cities by Lord Britian, Blackthorn and Merlin. ((Which lead to the 4 factions of Felucca, and Trammel)) After all, the spells we have mastered in our books, are not all of them. Simply the one's our simple human minds can bear to control (4 word incantations, humans are lame, elves easily chant 50 word incantations). Buccaneer's den was not considered a realm under Lord Britain thus was not protected. Moongates, in ultima lore tend to have natural auras that prevent evil / sentinent beings from being able to see/interfere with them. ((Not to mention actual guard posts and fort cities, instead of a guard zone)) If you played Ultima on the SNES.

Re: SHOULD MAGERY BE ALLOWED IN ONE TOWN?
When monsters invade towns doesn't magic function as it should? Maybe there should be times when the magic influx is broken and monsters invade on a regular basis?

There were many Ultima games on the NES and SNES.
Ultima 1 - 5. Ultima Underworld 1 & 2. A few more.
