Studded Armor difficulty???

Post by MatronDeWinter »

I made studded leather armor for the first time ever today.

This ONE on the right, is GM, the 12 on the left, are not. This does not include the 9 times during this run that I failed to make anything at all, destroying my materials...

After wasting I dont know how much leather making the first 2, I started keeping the average. It took me up to 41 attempts to make an exceptional stud-tunic at gm tailoring one time.

I averaged only 1 in 22 studded tunics that were exceptional, this is over the period of crafting 20 tunics.

There has to be something wrong, it is easier to tame a nightmare on a GM tamer, than it is to make a studded tunic with a GM tailor, no joke.

The current stratics website ranks the studded tunic as 75 or so skill minimum, that is roughly the same as a Smith making a Plate Chest, that seems reasonable. The T2A Wiki states that it requires 95.4 minimum here? Where did this info come from?

Hopefully someone can find something mentioning such a high difficulty for this item. I checked way-back machine ect.. no luck. What is the Source for the info on the T2A wiki?

Developing a tailor myself I find this discouraging.

Incredibly useful post coming up........

Studded Tunics are srs bsns.

Edit: Well you've probably failed at crafting exceptional tunics so many times because your character isn't wearing any shoes! Why don't you try standing on a freezing cold stone floor and crafting a studded tunic IRL! Put on some nice warm shoes then get some new statistics, then we can analyze it.

The link to the Tailoring page from stratics corroborates our current minimum difficulty. While it may not be exactly 95.4, the difficulty for creating studded tunics is within 0.1-0.2 of the number listed on the stratics page.

I think he was asking where the info for the wiki came from.

matron this is accurate. i fail (granted not 12 times in a row) when making studded armor and try to stay away from it b/c its a huge waste. the increased AR doesn't justify making it imo

Yup, There is nothing that this annoying armor can do that a set of chain can't provided you use a leather gorget, and that has higher AR to boot. I see this stuff selling marginally above the cost of regular leather armor! There is NO way that anyone can turn a profit with this stuff without selling it for 4,000gp, especially considering the time it takes.

Mr.T, your right, but the link kaivan provided is to the historical stratics page indicating the difficulty within a certain degree, he answered my question perfectly.
