Event critique
Event critique
The events (ctf and such) that are in place now really irritate me, here is why:
1.When I log in and an event is going on half the player base is there and I am not.
2.Its not era accurate.
3. Its not game related, its not within the game...
It really sucks when I am walking around looking for some action or interaction and people are not there there because they are somewhere else playing a completely different game and i cant join them (which I don't want to). These events should be incorporated somehow within the game, if you are going to have capture the flag, make it with a chaos/order thing where they capture cities. I know, that is not era accurate either, but at least it's within the game and something to aspire to. I am trying to be constructive, anyway flame on.

Those events last like 10 minutes. Go take a shit and come back. It'll be over.monkey555 wrote:The events (ctf and such) that are in place now really irritate me, here is why:

Re: Event critique
Order/Chaos faction type system would work pretty well, I understand what you say how the event is not within the game.monkey555 wrote:The events (ctf and such) that are in place now really irritate me, here is why:

Re: Event critique
Well, the reason most events are in separate maps are because things (like CTF) require region edits so that people don't get murders.. items don't get consumed... skills don't gain... etc. It's a lot easier to make sure those region edits don't jack up the server if you have them in different zones.
And you can't just make it Order/Chaos since people can't hop onto order stones and hop off just for events. Events are for everyone.. sorry if they don't tickle your fancy.
I seriously think some people aren't happy unless they're complaining.

Re: Event critique
Another factor is, it's 2009...you aren't always going to be able to find interaction on the shard, people have the game figured out and interacting isn't always fun...events are.

Re: Event critique
There are plenty of in game events too. Besides I see alot of people who do not participate in these games every time an event is schedeuled.
Re: Event critique
If it were a player run event that had as many people and you logged in half way through you wouldnt be able to join in probably :< (depending on the event of course)
Our guild holds plenty of in game events, other groups are doing the same. If you check the player run events forum its becoming pretty busy.
These 'tramel' style events have already been reduced significantly.
I think over time there will be a pretty good balance of player run vs automated events.

Re: Event critique
I understand that this is one of those issues that seems to be continually debated in various forum posts, so I'll try to contribute my two cents in a concise manner.
I tend to agree with the original poster when it comes to these events draining players from field PvP. Although I see the value in the auto-events when it comes to gathering folks on the shard during extreme non-peak hours and I respect the decision of much of the player base to participate, I will admit that I am a little dumbfounded when I see how many people are there. Everyone's play style is different and I do not want to discredit those who choose to play events because they find them fun, but I can't help but think that these events undermine "era accuracy", something that I think we can all agree playability sacrifices are often made for.
Sure it's 2009, but for some reason we're all still playing this archaic, decade-old game -- on a server that emulates "the way it was". Why is this non-OSI component of the game propped up while other parts stagnate as "era accurate"?
I understand that they have already been curtailed in frequency and that there is an increase in the number of player sponsored events, but I can't help but pose a question: are the pixel-trophys worth that much in the mind of y'all?

Re: Event critique
I think the events give players a feeling it's okay to fight, it's okay to die, and to test their metal of their characters so they all don't run away when the real thing happens. They start to develop more of a comfortable psyche when engaged in PVP thereafter.
