what's the differnece between tattered an non tattered maps?

A tattered map has not decoded by a treasure map hunter yet. Any map that is not tattered has already been decoded and can only be read by the t-map hunter who decoded. Basically if you want to do a t-map and buy them off of people then do no buy non-tattered maps.
