I plan to make a sandbox MMORPG one day. Its on my todo list and somewhere on my computer I already have a ton of notes.
There are many fundamental problems with MMO games that need to be worked out though.
But one thing thats always lacking is thea bility to do things. Every mmorpg is about levels and classes and weapons and items....yet I haven't seen very many MMOPRG's that let you sit, let you eat food or drink water. These basic things are just missing.

I was just telling one of my co-workers today how different UO is compared to other MMOs of today.
You just don't have as many players telling others of unique and interesting things that they do these days. IN UO you can do anything any way you want, so everyone has their own personal adventures and experiences.
In MMOS like WOW and WAR, Everyone does the exact same quest for their class. So everyone just follows a cookie-cutter route. Basically A conversation about what they did usually sounds like this:
"I did this quest today..."
"Yeah, I did that quest too.."
"Cool..."
They can't really do anything unique. It's do this quest, run this instance, Farm this daily, look for this type of gear.
In UO you can start having your own unique adventures and stories from DAY ONE.
You just don't have as many players telling others of unique and interesting things that they do these days. IN UO you can do anything any way you want, so everyone has their own personal adventures and experiences.

I seem to remember, when first installing UO T2A, watching the art while the program loaded. It asked "Who will you be?" and "What will you do?".
Shortly after opening that red chest and pressing the jewled buttons I got to find out what they meant.
UO did leave all that up to you.

Darkfall could soon be that way. I've been playing it for a week now US-1 and I really enjoy it.

I played Darkfall from release up until the beginning of June, and I don't think I could ever go back. It was a lot of fun at first until I realized all of the flaws that stopped it ever becoming the next UO for me. I could explain why but it would take a few pages...

Mortal Online seems to have taken ALOT of things from UO. I'm interested to see how well it is implemented, though.
