How does insta-hit with archery work?

Post by Hoots »

I have never got into weapon timers at the detail alot of PvPers on this shard have. I understand insta hit as this...

With a weapon equipped and being "fresh" as in not fighting anyone, when you attack a target you swing and if you hit the damage is immediate. Then you must wait out your swing delay before you can strike again.

People like archery as a nice opener with a heavy for the insta hit.

My question is.

If im casting with no weapons equipped and do not use a "wrestle" if i equip a heavy and attack last will it insta fire?

Also, if im forced to wrestle and then equip a heavy what type of delay am i looking at.

If this is explained somewhere already a link would be great. I get confused after the first weapon swing/fire. Once you start re-equiping and casting im not really sure how all the timers work (wrestle timer and weapon timer)

Thanks for any info.

There is "insta-hit" with archery, aside from the 1 second delay on damage that all bows have to allow for "travel" I guess. But only insta-hit, meaning that once your timer is elapsed you can equip and instantly fire, that does not mean that your timer will count any differently. There are no equip-refreshes (or whatever you call them) for archery. You cant drop the bow, wait 2-3 seconds and re-arm it and fire again, no matter what, (with archery) you swing timer has to elapse the normal way, if you wrestle you lose your swing, which is extremely painfull with archery because your looking at a 14 second delay with 25 dex on a heavy x-bow. But the good news is that your timer advances while you run, unlike any other weapon.

Thanks Matron. I understand about the 1 second delay so lets just remove that from the conv to simplify things.

1. I come in at range and Explo, EB, then equip a Heavy. (what is my fire delay) Be it form equips or swings, (no wrestle)
2. same as above but just as im about to equip a mongbat punches me and i have to wrestle. Then i equip the heavy (what is my fire delay)

Im assuming that if i come in with the heavy equipped and i attack i auto fire. Im also assuming that once i fire a bolt i have the long swing retimer (14 secs).

What im not sure i understand is how a wrestle timer can screw me if i have not equipped a bow yet?

Thanks again!

If you have a shot ready it will always fire if you have the ranged weapon equipped and have a combatant in line of sight.

Take into consideration that ALL weapons including bows still retain the equip delay. The equip delay resets your character's current delay if the weapon is equipped while there is an active weapon delay. If you end up wrestling and equip the bow slightly after swinging the delay will readjust to the current weapon being equipped(the bow) based on that delay if you would have swung/fired the weapon.

The reason archery cannot be recycled like melee weapons is because the timer was on a separate thread compared to the melee timer where it cannot elapse while on the move unlike ranged weapon delays.

Wrestling is considered "melee" that utilizes the same thread used for a all melee delays.

so just to clarify something. if lets say i start a battle off with a bow and fire a shot off. then i unequip and cast explosion, holding it while i wait out the archery swing timer (no bow equiped during this time). if i release my spell, and re-equip my bow will i instantly fire off another shot?

ok makes sense, thanks So if i come in casting i can i count on a insta shot as long as i dont wrestle. The second i wrestle im looking at the long delay. Gotcha,

next Q.

How does tabbing help/hurt things.

If im forced to wrestle and I tab in/out can i get around the long delay for the bow.

This is if i have not equiped a bow yet. It sounds like i should be able to let my wrestle timer elapse and then be able to tab and get a insta hit with a bow.

I basically want to ensure i can fire 1 bolt at the beginning of battle.

If you haven't shot the bow you should be fine after a wrestling elapses. Once you have shot the bow and acquired that delay is when things start to get confusing and unreliable with ranged weapons. The first shot is pretty much a guarentee unless you screw it up by receiving an equip delay while having an active weapon delay.
