Magery calculations

Post by MatronDeWinter »

I'm trying to figure out how magery plays a role in damage. I know the formula was posted here at some point, but I cannot seem to find it. I hear that magery adds to the hit points you heal with beneficial spells, but only plays a role in chance to cast for damaging spells, and I also hear the opposite?

Can someone give me the calculation for magery for both healing and damge spells? Also, what is the deal with EQ now? I thought it was supposed to take 1/2 hits off the target(s), but it seems to work a little different?

Earthquake takes 1/2 the health of players. But not of other mobs and creatures.

Magery plays a role in the following spells:
  • Earthquake (range)
  • Nightsight (light level)
  • Mindblast (damage)
  • Paralyze (duration)
  • Summon Creature (duration)
  • Heal & Greater Heal (amount healed)
  • Cure (chance/level)
  • Field Spells (duration)
  • Polymorph (duration)
  • Reveal (chance/range)
  • Poison (level)
  • Unlock (level)
Not sure what you mean by a role in chance to cast. Your chance to cast any magery spell is based on the circle of the spell and your level of magery.

Great Derrick, that was the info I was looking for. It seems that currently, EQ does a bit more damage than 1/2. I was casting with a scroll though, but I believe you said that scrolls only reduce the circle, not increase the skill ect.

(edit: I do think that the reveal spell here is working like detect hidden, except using your magery skill in the calculation, I was always under the impression that reveal had a much shorter range, even at gm magery. Here you can reveal-target self, and cover the whole screen. I could be wrong though)

Actually both I just discovered. Will revise.

Aye using a scroll won't increase damage output on anything, or increase effective magery level for any of the above, only a chance to cast increase.

Earthquake does take Eval and Resist into account, which can increase or decrease the final damage.

The reveal spell mechanism is a little bit different than detect hidden, but similar.

Ok, I was testing vs a player with 97 resist, while using a character with 90 magery, gm eval, casting EQ from a scroll. It was hitting a consistant 55-65 damage, I always thought that spell was 1/2 but I guess the eval-resist comparison increased the damage some?

Ooops.
You're right. This also needs some more looking into in regards to what is correct.
Currently it's taking 60%

Along the lines of magery, if I recast strength or cunning on myself, shouldn't it reset the buff counter? Currently, if you have strength cast (and it has 20 secs before it wears off), if you recast strength it consumes regs and still "buffs" however the spell is gone at that 20 sec mark. Is this the way it was in t2a?

I believe it should say "That spell is already in effect", there shouldn't be any behavioral difference between buffs and debuffs. You cannot re-debuff either.
