Stop my ingot service or raise prices? Please tell me :)

Post by Valyr »

Hey guys. Sorry but Ive got a dillema here. Alot of you have come to know and rely on my ingot and board supply at Vulcan vendors ( see http://forum.uosecondage.com/viewtopic.php?f=30&t=9120 if your not familiar ). However I just cant keep up with the stock anymore and I also want to do my own smith, tink, carp skills so heres a question. Charge 7.5 per wich will allow me to buy them from other sources for 7 giving me an edge on the pricing or shut it down for a while? What would you prefer.

Again sorry to have to do this but ya know how it is :)

and just so ya know. The extra .5 I would charge is really to cover vendor costs. I would be happy to do this for the public at no profit but not at a cost out of my pocket lol. So before anybody says why buy for 7 and charge us 7.5.... Well theres the answer.

If you're in business to make gold, charge as much as you can get away with. If you're in business to help the shard while making a few GLDs, then maybe not.

its a very nice spot, and obviously everyone who buys ingots most likely checks yours. I would suggest finding a new player who has ambition to mine until they are rich. Keep the spot going you know what i mean?

Thats what Ive been trying to do Pacifico. And I do find some here and there supply but nothing on a regular ya know. The only way I see to be able to get a decent amount ( i was supplying 10k a day or more for the longest time and could sell 7x that) is to pay better than most. The problem ive run into is most people will pay 6.5 for iron in irc. Now I was charging that on my vendor aswell wich meant I had to pay 6 to float. In order to beat it Id have to pay 7 and charge 7.5 to float.

And yeah chum its sorta a mix of both. I dont mind not making money on the ingots and I dont charge any kind of rent or anything like that to the other vendors in my shop either. I like offering the service. But on the otherhand having the ingots there draws alot of traffic wich increases sales for my other vendors and my partners vendors aswell. So one hand washes the other sort of deal :). You guys didnt vote lol.

Raise prices.

There's a premium that can be associated with always having stock available.

I've seen GM War Axes going for anywhere from 100gp to 300gp. I'd gladly go to a place where they were 500gp if they were stocked every time.

If you keep running out of stock generally it means that the market for your product is in demand and cheap enough for the general population.
Both of those factors combined will ensure your difficulty in maintaining business. Perhaps increasing prices so others possibly follow suit would be a good idea? Theres nothing wrong with a strong economy. It does nothing but help crafters out in the long run if the materials required are expensive to obtain.

Actually a miner's guild would be beneficial to keep communications up to rally against any trouble you may be subject to. I would have miner oriented goals for your guild and place/buy houses in regions which they will in turn benefit. To turn a profit for a guild in which your mates are part and would benefit from together is better then selling ingots for cheaper then you put them on your vendor for in which you alone receive profit.

Thanks for all your input guys/gals. I think Ive reached a happy medium :). I am charging 7.5 now for iron ( I still do 6 for most colors) and I sell about 7k a day. Wich is an amount I can keep up with ya know. Where as before I could sell probably about 20-30k a day but there was no way to supply that much.

I think probably what is going on is for the most part I am a supply for those whom have already gmed there craft skills and just need the ingots for what they sell themselves (addons and etc). The customers that were the guys still building there skills have probly fallen off for the most part. Wich is fine by me :). Good to have them earn there skill anyways and then take it somewhat easier afterword by using my service.

As far as a guild of miners goes... Yeah it would be a successfull idea I think if anyone where to do it. For me however I am just not interested enough for that lol. Ingots are just one thing I offer at my shop out of many and is not my main concern in uo life. Plus to be honest I just dont have the time to add running a guild to my plate. Not yet anyways.

So again. Thanks everybody and I hope you all check out my shop and find it to your liking :). Happy hunting
