I was curious how archery has been determined for our shard.
There are 2 or 3 different patches that use vague terms basically saying "archery is stronger now to be in more align with other weapons".
I was just curious how have these patches been evaluated to change what is in the demo.

Re: Archery and our shard
The way archery functions should be a mirror image of how it does on the demo, however changes to damages and speeds of weapons were all documented and updated on stratics... all the stats on the bows we have here should be correct.

[22:26] <ian> why am i making 3750 empty kegs
[22:27] <ian> 1125000 for 3750 empty kegs

So all the patch notes are referring to the weapons themselves? That doesn't sound completely correct, but being at work I can't verify that.
Re: Archery and our shard
I saw about 2 notes today on archery which stated things "bows are now stronger" etc... Can you show me the ones you are referring to?poogoblin wrote:Hemperor wrote:The way archery functions should be a mirror image of how it does on the demo, however changes to damages and speeds of weapons were all documented and updated on stratics... all the stats on the bows we have here should be correct.

Re: Archery and our shard
You may very well be right. When I scoured the patch notes looking for something else I know I saw a few Archery patches (believe one had a couple blips from t2a and I believe there was a pre-t2a patch) I thought I recalled something more than weapons being involved.
I'll make sure to update this post after I get home and have a look (work filter barely lets me access google, let alone anything video game related).

So about half of it has to do with weapons themselves (which stratics probably has right as that was 97/98). But have the distances and speeds been changed to reflect the 1/13/98 patch notes, however vague the words substantially (yet it is a major adjective and as such should differ a lot from the demo) and somewhat.archery junk wrote:

Combat
* The type of damage no longer modifies the amount of damage taken by the player (so fire attacks no longer cause extra damage if you are wearing metal armor, etc.)
* Fighting now checks invisibility and hiding.
* All damage has been mathematically halved to slow down combat across the board. This takes place after damage absorption by armor.
* The damage done by all types of bows has been increased.
12/16/97
Archery
* Arrows now inflict the damage one second after the arrow is lanuched, instead of when the attack is launched.
1/13/98
Archery
* The minimum range has been removed from all archery weapons.
* The damage on all archery weapons has been increased.
* The firing rate on regular bows has gone up substantially.
* The firing rate on regular crossbows has gone up somewhat.
* The range on bows has been increased.
Ultima Online: The Second Age Patch Notes for 02/02/1999
# Your swing rate or firing rate with all weapons is now dependent on your current stamina, instead of your dexterity.
# Damage for your blow is now assessed on your opponent on the start of the swing, instead of at the end. This change makes a fast connection less of an advantage in melee combat. This will apply to wrestling and attacks made by monsters as well.
# Equipping a weapon now causes a short "prep time" before you can start swinging.
Re: Archery and our shard
The archery statistics used on UOSA are those from the mid-'99 Stratics pages.

I belive that no changes to archery were made (besides switching to a stamina based speed) after the cited '98 patches, which should make the mechanics for archery the same as in the demo, and hence verifiable.

I apologize Derrick, at the time of this post I wasn't aware the demo covered up to June '98. (Never bothered to read the demo sticky since it had the word PvP in the title)
