Chance to disrupt calculator

Post by Hiram »

http://mhk.puddleboy.com/chance_to_disrupt.php

Enter the average damage done by a spell (harm is 6.5, for example) followed by the spell of the circle you are disrupting (4th for greater heal) and finally the target's magery (100 for a gm mage!) to calculate the percent chance to disrupt the target.

The example above gives an 85.66 percent chance to disrupt using harm on a gm mage casting greater heal.

That a pretty nifty and great utility Hiram.

Did you make it?

Edit:
Haven't checked out accurate it is yet though, but if it works it's great in my opinion.

What does the circle of the spell being disrupted have to do with anything? Are higher circle spells harder to disrupt? Easier?

Higher circle spells are much easier to disrupt.

...because they take longer to cast? Or is there some other reason?

Also, what does the Magery of the caster have to do with anything?

For some reason, I was under the impression that the only thing that mattered towards chance of disrupting was the amount of damage. Now it seems like different spell circles will be disrupted differently? And the same spell will be disrupted less or more with differing amounts of magery?

This is, presumably, because they are more difficult and require more concentration to cast. This has nothing to do with casting time, all percent chances here assume that the damage landed sometime during the casting of the spell.

More magery means you are better at being a mage, which means it probably requires less concentration to cast spells, therefore it is harder to disrupt your spell casting. This is the target's magery, not the person doing the damage/trying to disrupt.

Correct, the three factors that determine disrupt are the three included in the calculator, namely: amount of damage dealt, circle of spell being disrupted, magery of person being disrupted.

That is actually right Alatar.

42% 1st Check
42% 2nd Check

That equates to 67% chance overall.

What is your sample size on that 33 percent?

EDIT: I just tested this in game and feel the 67 percent number is accurate. I would expect that because I am using the exact formula we use for disrupt, which is also pulled straight from the demo source code.
