I played ten years ago on osi for two years, after that I didn't play until 9 months ago. I think in-between there I played on some uoassist thing for like a month. Before this I tried divinity and got killed by a beetle and thought it was stupid as hell. Then I found this shard which will be my last uo shard I'll ever play.

OSI:
Pacific

FREESHARDS
DoomsDay Shard (Played)
Live or Die aka Live and Die (owned/ran) (More of a test server for West Beach)
West Beach (owned/ran)
The Dark Side Shard (Gmed)
IPY (Played)
UO: Redemption (Played/GMed)
Here

These are the main shards I played the reason I shut down the servers I ran is burn out. This is typically the main reason you see shards shut down. To stop this from happening don't bitch and moan to staff... it will only shorten the life span.

I really never played on a free shard. I stopped playing UO shortly after trammel came out. I gathered up any players that I could find in fel, and gated them to my keep. I gave away millions of gold away, all sorts of rares, and at the end of it, the keep also.

A couple of months ago me and bro signed up for UO retail. What a piece of crap retail is, I promptly cancelled the account and we began to search for free shards.

Second age was the only shard we could find that

1) Had no trammel

2) Striving for Era accuracy

3) Could not receive ingame items for donations.

I mean comon other shards offering all sorts of skill balls and regs. WTF is the fun of buying 5k of each reg? Or buying a 7x gm skill ball? That is not my idea of a fun game having crap handed to me ingame for real money. Half the fun of the game is defining your toon, and building up your skills and reputation to how you see fit.

There really is no need to play on any other free server.

I agree with Josh.
This will be my first and last free server that I play on.

Great job to Derrick and staff for making an accurate, uncorrupt server.

Im really liking the community here. Most are very nice and helpful and theres JUST enough "griefer spice" to keep me from feeling like Im in a greased up man-love pit.

Yeah. I played on AI since my friend turned me onto it. It was one of the best rulesets Ive ever had the pleasure to play. There was a lot of drama, but meh. It was great.

AI died, every other shard was horrible. This one feels just right.

Once I 7x Ill see how good yall are at PvP ;)

PS: To the one who offered to help out Ai-ers, we need goldz... Lots and lots of goldz... ...and strippers to spend it on! :D

Speak for yerself... I just use my snappy wit and rugged good looks to charm girlies outta their clothes for free... I do need gold though... about 175k so that Niggle and I can place our 1337kEeP and get down to some SERIOUS Trammy Deco Whoring.

I really liked the population size on Hybrid, with over 1000 players online at all times, it was really nice.....although there was no penalty for being red, so everyone on the server had a red character, and you couldnt go anywhere without being attacked nonstop...I also hated the donation system, where you could donate items and receive ethreal bears, skill balls, etc...

Divinity was alot like this server, however there was no mounts and you could buy blessed runebooks. There was also skill balls you could pay for with real world money. The server was hard and reminded me of old-school UO, however the population of about 100 players is just not enough to have any fun with.

Angel Island was alot of fun, however I stopped playing there because the player base was small, so I lost interest after awhile. Adam Ant the shard owner was originally from Napa Valley on OSI shards, where I was originally from, so I have always felt a sense of pride playing on his own custom made server. I never ended up in any of his custom pk comics (because he never managed to finish me off), but I had been attacked before by him back on Napa Valley in the early years.....I really admired the way he role-played a murderer, and thus would wear my blood red Sash while in Wind, just to show respect towards him, not because I was afraid of being slain.

Metrolpolis was fun for awhile, although I wasn't crazy about the no mounts rule. The staff was active and tried to make changes all the time, to make the PvP stay fresh, but one day I tried to log in, and the server had been shut down for good. Ohh well......

the reasoning behind being able to donate for pvp stock (regs, kegs) and skillballs is that the people who run these shards assume most players have played osi and do not want to spend months training characters. they want to get a 7x character as soon as possible and get straight into the fighting. even i was a pretty firm believer in this until we started here. i never had so much fun playing uo than the first couple of weeks on secondage running around with newbie characters trying to make money to train with the hard skillgain. reminded me of osi and it changed my perspectives completely. im now 100% in favour of near on impossible skillgain.

i played defiance pretty much since i quit osi just after aos. when me and my friends started there we were told it was felucca only, no neon items, and that it replicated uor which actually involved skillbased pvp. all of this was true until they added evolution pets (along with super easy skillgain for training taming) which took all of the challenge out of making cash, and until they flooded the shard with useless trammel items that 90% of the playerbase spend their time buying and selling. everything about defiance, apart from the pvp system and the timers, is broken.

i'll stand by defiance uor's pvp system til the day server dies because the spell timings are pretty much perfect. unfortunately, without players to actually fight, theres not much that makes the server worth playing.

I left OSI because they were nerfing tamers every patch and then they finally nerfed my play class to 2 dragons and no horse or 1 dragon and a horse. That was it for me. One thing they had right was they didn't nerf my dragon speed like they did here.

This is the only shard i have ever been on where my pet couldn't even keep up with me.
