Tower placement question..

Post by PillPuller »

When placing a large tower I was under the impression that all that mattered was the base of it not the overhang. Is this correct? I have a large patio (15x14) right now that I can move 1 tile to east just fine (making the spot 16x14) but I can not get a tower to go there? Why is this?

You are incorrect, the overhang follows similar rules to the base itself.

I'd suggest getting on the test center shard (test.uosecondage.com) and testing out your placement there.

Overhangs are tricky. I used to have a secluded tower surrounded by 6 smalls and I would play with placement of different larges at server ups.

Here is what i found.

You can place a tower with the overhang over a house, but you cant place a house under the overhang of the tower.

In other words. I placed a small, then a tower to the left of it (small was close to or under the overhang). Then i deeded the small, but it wouldnt let me replace it in its same spot. I had to deed the tower, then place the small and replace the tower to get it back.

So a placed tower will actually block more land than is needed to place the tower itself... That is my finding atleast...

not definate, but did some testing, and it seems that you can place a house, and then place a tower 4 tiles East or West of it, but if the tower is down already, it has to be 5 tiles east or west to place another house. Those are just the results of the area i've tested

Your overhangs are fine...your problem is a large patio is a 14x14, you are trying to place a 16x14 in a 15x14 place. A small is affected by your overhangs but your overhangs are not affected by a small.

if you want to know if a tower will fit - log onto the test center and buy a tower deed and see if it fits

Sorry to necro, i have never been a house placing master. I jave a spot that fits a large patio and i can change the spot left or right by one. Can you noy have the overhang over a house now this says you could. Also can tou not allign overhangs with other towers now?

You can have overhangs overlap with the outermost tile of another building (I think), which means you need like 2-3 tiles from each side of the base (effectively making your required base at least 20, might even be 22, if you have houses on both sides). This does not apply to trees and other impassable objects, you only need 1 tile on the sides from those.

However, your trouble might not even be the overhangs, have you checked the front? Towers have 2 tiles of steps, which are taken into account for the 5 tile buffer between houses, which means you need 7 tiles from the front of the base of a tower to the back of the house in front.

- Towers have a 16x14+stairs foot print BEFORE being placed. After placing, the foot print changes to include the wings.
- Towers have an extra tile of stairs compared to a patio and housing needs 5 tiles infront and behind to be placed. Often a tower would mean you are bumping into the 5 tile breather space a house infront of it.
- If there is a tree one tile from the front stairs, directly infront of the stairs, then there can occaisinally be an issue with the relative position of your character relating to transparency.

If I am available on IRC I am always happy to check your spot for you and explain the niggles of placement there.

Tower wings are slightly buggy in my opinion. Also they can be placed much further over the 'rim' of another house than one tile. Sometimes there are some inconsistencies and one time I placed a tower that was so far over another house that when you walked onto the wing, the game bugged out and dropped you into the neighbors house (but you couldn't reach anything, on your client you were in their house but to others you were still on the wing).

Towers.
