Tmaps and boats

Post by GuardianKnight »

Why don't we block recalling/gating to map spots? Wouldn't the game be more fun if we actually needed to use boats to go places?

I remember old uo, me and a friend got on a boat and went from island to island just to do a level 2 map. It was an adventure.

Having more boat activity would be a great thing, however....your idea probably isn't a good way to accomplish this. Just think of the stress this would put on people who lived on these Islands? They wouldn't be able to go anywhere without taking their boat back to the mainland first...

I did remember "Dot Island", or as most people now know it, T-map spot #5, as a treasure location in which you had to take the boat to it....

Hmm maybe a GM event every once in a whiel where magic travel has stopped working and the only way to get to the spots is by boat.

Now that is an idea that sounds like a perfect solution...

I agree, but it should only apply to recall/gating via runes and runebooks.

Recalling off of boat keys is a mechanic to help players get to their boat if they have lost it or have trouble getting to it.

Um yeah, so is recalling or gating somewhere that is hard to find or hard to get to.

There's a difference. Boats can move, Boats can get lost, boats can get stuck, The ability to recall off a boat key is due to the problems associated with interacting with a mobile structure.

You realize you can still do this right? Play it how you want to play it, it's UO.

I actually remember this as well, you could not mark a rune here...we would have to set the ship from the penninsula above and sail too it, then most would dig up the chest from the plank of the boat and do the Tmap from their boat using alot of "forwards" and "back" commands.
