Well how do you Define what "Active Players" are?

Well, of course the number of clients don't really represent the number of players online. Just because you have X number of clients online, it doesn't mean that there are *THAT* many people playing.

I would assume a player calculator would be something like:

Player population = Online Client number / allowed clients per IP + margin of error for the IPs that legitimately do have multiple players on them (let's say 15%?)

I see up in the top left that 424 Players are online right now, I assume this means clients running. (I wouldn't be surprised if I was wrong, though.)

424/3+15% = 162.53

So according to that formula I just made up (with no research or info to back it up on), there are about 163 actual players online. That's just a guess.

And what is considered "active" in terms of game play is subject to personal opinion.

To you, that might mean that you have client/s running on your computer.
To me, that means, you're sitting at your computer and interacting with the computer first-hand and at least to some degree, with the community too.

So yeah. What I'm saying is that the Client # means little to me personally. What does matter to me are players online that I could interact with if I desired. And the first place many players spawn at is Brit, so brit bank east + west is how I would judge.

But that's just me.

Most people don't understand unique ip's and associate the "online clients" for the amount of people actually playing.

Only the veteran players from previous shards pay that much attention to the unique count since it has come up numerous times from the previous shards that they played.

It tends to be more of a "pyschological" effect more than anything.

Here's a better estimator:
[16:06] Server: RunUO 2.0 Creatures: 70185 Items: 2547943 Guilds: 525 Clients Online: 425 IP's: 258

258 unique IP's with 425 on. Some people do play from the same IP though so you might be able to add 5% or 10% to the 258

you can see this summary in IRC by typing "!status"

The only thing anyone cares about is seeing "There are X amount of players online." when playing a player run shard. I have been around the shard scene for almost a decade now and that has ALWAYS been the motivation for players that only care about population when playing a Pre:UOR shard.
Maybe thats how you see things my friend but I could care less about #s posted about how many people are online. If I don't see them in the first few days I'm out. Again this is my personal opinion and don't let your personal opinion be pushed to the general public. I am just voicing my difference in creating a anti town macro policy.
