Suggestion: Reinstate trophies for CTF/DD

For ideas on how to make Second Age a better shard. Can it get any better? Maybe.

i dont think i said anything about the trophy system in this thread, so this should not be directed towards me.

My point in all of this is simply trophys made the ctf games suck.
Without trophys I am enjoying the games much more.
You brought up a point about "bettering UOSA" and I pointed out how the trophy system (which you're arguing against) is good for UOSA. Sorry but the CTF games suck now there is barely anyone in them anymore. I've been entering them and they are seriously not anywhere near as competitive as they were.

I think I've said this before but I think we should just make the top 20% of the winners on the winning team get trophies. So if there were 10 players on the winning team, the best 2 wouyld get a trophy. Not only would there be more competition between teams, but there would be competition between team members as well.

Here is what i hear from your argurment. I WANT HUES, I WANT CBDS, I WANT I WANT. you want newbs to get free points so you can buy them with the same wealth that you seem to hold against established players? It sounds like a selfish arguement to me. The more newbs that get trophies, the more you can buy and the closer you can be to wearing your trammy glory!

10 points would be something a new player could farm to in a week or so. That doesnt sound horrible to me. This server should not be about rewards and events. It should be about the t2a era. and yeah, this era was tough on new players.

The only thing that would change with a 10 point turn in would be the time it takes for new player to get paid for their event trophies. Nothing else really would change. You buying 1 pt from a player every 3 days is the same as buy 10 from him 30 days from now isnt it?


10 Point deeds would probably be BETTER for buyers as you arnt spamming for 10k trades 10 times right?

To even consider putting points back a solid method (that can be automated by devs as opposed to it taking their time) needs to be developed to stop curb afk'ing and multi'ing

the pvp was much better when there were trophys for ctfs since afterwards people would go to bucs and fight eachother. i like the ranking system hopefully it gives peopel a reason to play cuz atm the pvp is horrible ever since ctf and DD trophys were taken out.coincidence? doubt it. Also trophys gives reason for people to play like it or not.

4) It is indisputable that events that give trophies, FOR WHATEVER PSYCHOLOGICAL REASONS, result in a more active shard. It is simply the case on UOSA. There are more people in the field, there are large battles before and after events, and people bandying about (# of clients being equal). Previously, others alleged that decreasing the number of events would lead to a more active and vibrant shard, while I conjectured the contrary. I think every pvper out there will agree wholeheartedly that I was correct in this instance, and while adding trophies is clearly not going to be a panacea, I think it is a step in the right direction.
5) Getting a trophy every two wins seems to me to be a pretty palatable compromise, though I can see how this might have counterproductive results.
6) It should be mentioned that AFKers and the like hurt their teams materially in all games, and that teams with more than two AFK players rarely win events. This lowers the Expected Value of joining an event with the hopes of gaining a trophy while being afk substantially. Also, chronic AFKers were very quickly paged on in my experience, and reprimanded by staff. Methods of policing AFKing can certainly be improved upon, so I do not think that this problem in itself constitutes a material objection to re-instituting trophies,

1. SO THEN HAVE THEM DO THAT!!! all these people who say mining/blades/tailor/barding can do the same, well then new players have plenty of access to gold right? 99% of these mining/blades posts are BS. How many reags does it take to cast blades for 30 mins? No one counts resources, travel reags, shovels, deaths etc. etc. And even if it is possible, it take 30 minutes of hardcore dedicated game play to get that type of return.

2. asking more of the devs and volunteers on this shard to monitor anything more than they already do isnt reasonable IMHO. alot of people put alot of time in behind the scenes here.

3. You're contradicting your point one? Why didnt you just blade for 30 mins?

4. I probably agree on this, but afk'ing/multi has to be stopped somehow.

5. Maybe, dunno

6. the problem at its peak (imho) was 4 afk'ers on one team and 6 on the other... Some of which could be multi's. If afking isnt address this will return. So even if the 6 afk team loses, you have 4 afk'ers getting points...

1. 5-10k in 30 minutes is not challenging, but it is tedious. I killed Earth elementals in Shame, and you could kill 10 or so with just 3 blade spirits in a room.
2. My point was mainly that as it goes, a huge amount of information is logged in the events (such as movements, kills, captures, etc.) Obviously it isn't a top priority for the staff, but it would not be difficult for them to institute some type of monitoring down the road, given that data that they already log. It is not at all "unreasonable," I think to ask for this, given the sweeping positive effects having a successful event system has on the overall shard.
3. No, it isn't contradictory because unlike events, dropping blade spirits on monsters is mind numbingly boring. I do not enjoy hunting at all in this 12 year old game, though this is clearly what I did to finance most of my character. Paired with people telling me the PVP system sucked here, I came very close to not finishing my character because it was tedious, and did not log on for almost a week.
4. I think it could be with a player managed event moderation system, and with the hard data that is already backed up (in the event of a dispute or player injustice).
6. I don't remember more than a couple in any given event (clearly, I'm probably mistaken), and they were usually repeat offenders (like Yeast Beast, etc.) Basically, I am not convinced it was a widespread problem -- there were just a few obstinate dicks.

Lets just say CTF/DD was alot more fun when there was alot more people and maybe points should be given trophy wise by points earned during the event not just because you were on the winning side.

Trophies only for tourneys and last man standing is rewarding primarily L33T individuals the oppurtunity to cash in on some gold or rares rather then giving newer players or less established players a shot.

Most of the people who win can give their newer alt characters thousands in gold or unlimited resource.

The trophy system reinstated would help completely new players get started in the same way that these alts can.

Plus like I said originally a crowded event room was a great place to be and creates alot of hype and excitement before events.

If thats not good enough reason to reinstate the trophy system then just end the events all together, because thats why I believe they were created in the first place.

I miss old events. I miss the post-event pvp. I miss knowing that after a year of playing I may have won enough trophies from ctf/dds (because im no godly 1v1 dueler like choppa or chad) to get my pink fucking deer mask. I have fucking stacks of trohpies that I won by setting alarms for event that I'll never get to use becasue I'm nowhere near close to my goal. And I was literally at nearly every event. The only other guy with a similar attendence was Yomega. Me setting alarms for events didn't mean i was only playing events either, because i was extremely active and always on the field. The events on a nice 4 hour gap meant I would often play a full 8 hours straight like some kind of fucking crack head.

I was one of those in irc that always said i'd still play events even without trophies, because I loved the events for the events. I said "don't remove events if you have to change something (because i didn't want a change) just remove trophies. And I tryed to play the non-trophy events, but they fucking SUCKED. They were nothing like they were before. They were boring, mostly filled with a handful of rarely seen newb type players, and totally slow paced. I played the dying events for a few days, and tryed to enjoy it, but it was seriously impossible. I think I even logged out in the middle of a few to play xbox. I never would have done that during one of the events under the old system.

Truly the people arguing the effect on the economy from trophies are exagerating too. This is god damn uo. Every newb who wants a house, can make the money for it in 1 fucking day EASILY, trophy system or not. Risk vs reward? Tailor fancy shirts. Fuck the shit can even be macroed. Kill sheep for wool. Macro a bard for 3 days (almost free) and farm for 30 minutes, all you need is recall regs and your newb instrument.

As far as afkers go, thats exagerated too. I played nearly every event, every day, and really only saw afkers in the late nights, and mostly luca blight. Most afkers got reported, doing so is easy, do your part to help and stop preaching that the system is broke. I reported people a few times myself and I didn't see those players afk again.

And lastly, also mentioned a few times, active events promoted the MOST player interaction that I've seen on this shard - minus the few pvm events derrick tossed. The action after an event could last a few hours sometimes, its when the most people are on at once, 3:30 is the event, everyone makes sure they're around for it, and right after, that player and their guildmates are still around. Everyone pops into bucs and large group fights happened. Those fights would often carry over to other areas or whatever. It was good for pvp and it was fun. ffs, this is a game still right? gib fun?

I would play again tomorrow if there were active events because the game in general would be more entertaining.

If they lowered the cost amount in points of the trophy rewards when redeemed and made it so that "new" points were redeemable only by the participant...it would stop alot of the afk- log in- grab trophy alts and reward players for interaction as well as giving people a good excuse to practice pvp and have some risk free guiltless fun killing everyone they can for no reason what so ever other then to win.
