Line of Sight and Karma Loss

Post by Stuck »

I don't have any hard proof of this, but in the original t2a I remember teleport mechanics being very counter intuitive. If something looked like it was out of LOS, it probably wasn't. I remember being able to teleport to any tile directly in front of you, regardless of any walls it may have been blocked by, as long as its Z axis was above you. I distinctly remember teleporting on top of several different roofs of buildings or huts.

The mechanics got even stranger: for example, I remember being able to teleport through the wall on the second floor of the Delucia inn.

I realize without any very specific details of the exact mechanics, this would be very hard to replicate.

I also had a question about the karma loss values. Are these era accurate?

I realize that stratics page was probably written long after T2A, but could karma loss values have changed that drastically since then?

At unsavory, summoning daemons causes me to lose a little karma. Killing blue NPCs causes me to lose a little karma.

Heres another page which looks like it is a lot older than the above one (perhaps around the time of UOR?):
NPC Karma Loss
1. Peasants, bards, artists, farmers, fishers, miners, any mundane NPCs (least karma loss)
2. Mages, female healers
3. Male healers, NPC guildmasters
4. Nobles, Seekers of Adventure (most karma loss but beware of mercanaries)
From: http://uo.stratics.com/content/guides/dread.shtml

Killing seekers of adventure and NPC guildmasters at unsavory causes me to lose a little karma.

Aye, our LOS engine is quite a bit different than the OSI engine, and it's very close to default RunUO out, out of the complexities involved in it, we've stayed away from it pretty much. I'd like to replicate some of the LOS quirks of OSI, but haven't yet.

Karma loss for summoning daemons and performing some other specific acts is based on a static karma value as compared to your current karma.

Loss (or gains) from killing NPC's and players is based on your relative karma levels to that NPC or player, much like fame gains. The underlying formulas are correct, but the values may differ somewhat from OSI. We are constantly striving to correct stats, we have most of the values, it's just a lot of files.

Thanks Derrick.

Just an update, I used archive.org to check the karma loss stratics page from oct 1999:

It doesn't look like they have changed.

As I was going for Outcast today on my rogue, much like i did on my OSI rogue. I started doing how i did it back then pre UOR and escorting and luring Nobles out of town killing them and carving thier bodies.

I lost tons of karma on both back then and today I escorted a Noble didnt lose karma on either the kill or carve(the carve was more then i believe). And lured a mobile Noble and lost little karma on the kill and non on the carve. Im at scoundrel btw. Is it even possible to lose enough karma in UOSA right now to reach -5 lvl?

I think if you want to lose more karma you have to take counts by Pking other players or kill your own high fame and karma characters. That or GM poisoning.

GM poisoning wont get you that low either unfortunatly. i know on OSI provoking a wandering healer could lower you to -4 karma, and killing nobles could get you to -5. neither of these acts seems to lower karma enough on this server though. i know for certain these 2 methods worked as I described, but unfortunatly i cannot prove it.

EQ shouldn't kill them regardless of how many times its repeated, right?
