Stealing from a pack horse.
Re: Stealing from a pack horse.
Make sure you tell it to guard you. This should flag it 'guilded' to you and it should work.
best way to train stealing is stealing out of a locked down pouch in a house~

Re: Stealing from a pack horse.
Nope, havent tried it on this server, but any server with no anti-macro (such as this one) you shuold be able to steal from locked down container in house.. just make a razor macro to steal it then put it back in the pouch.
Also, the 'all guard me' thing is pretty universal.

Re: Stealing from a pack horse.
Aye. that "all guard me" only works in you're in a guild I believe. You can make another char to own the pack horse, and then steal from it.
Re: Stealing from a pack horse.
You should be able to record in razor picking them up and dropping them in horse.Spamnrice wrote: any suggestions on how to do this......

Try scavenger agent?Spamnrice wrote:i tried, but it says that the empty bottles could not be found =[
May have to clear the item queue each time.
I know I've done this myself with razor but it was some time ago.

Re: Stealing from a pack horse.
As much as I don't want a ton of town-theiving griefers running around (I'm looking at you, fry), here's how I GM'd stealing in 2-3 days..
1) Make a 2nd accound and give each character a pack horse (this should be a thief)
2) Get a bunch of bags and make them weigh your stealing skill/10 (Round down)
3) Make a Razor macro to steal from the other account's pack horse and drop a pouch on your pack horse (set it to "lift by type") for each thief-in-training
4) Use your house or an area in the guard zone that doesn't get trafficked by NPCs or players as your training ground.
I reccomend lightly supervising the macroing to feed the horses and to res your characters if/when they die. I ended up making a noob character to re-tame the horses when they become un-tamed.
After you are GM the real fun begins- Macroing doing some stupid shit until the thief Guild Master decides you are not "too young." I'm still working on this last part, but at least it doesn't need much supervision.
The requirement to join the thieves guild before stealing from "innocent" player-characters may be era accurate (?) but it's really lame. If you murder someone, you also can't be in the thieves guild until you lose your murder count(s). Thieves with scruples... weird.
Good luck!

Re: Stealing from a pack horse.
The guild requirement keeps there from being a million town thieves with 50 stealing that were just made two seconds before they start harassing everyone. It is annoying to wait, but it is for the greater good.brandonsantacruz wrote:As much as I don't want a ton of town-theiving griefers running around (I'm looking at you, fry), here's how I GM'd stealing in 2-3 days..

Re: Stealing from a pack horse.
There are still a million town thieves and they suck pretty hard.. Get some skill guys. Is there a way to know how much time you have before your "young" status is gone?
Re: Stealing from a pack horse.
There is no "young" status, but you have to have 48 hours game time to join thieves guild in addition to the 7 day old character requirement to join any NPC guildbrandonsantacruz wrote:There are still a million town thieves and they suck pretty hard.. There really don't seem to be more than three or four active thieves to my knowledge.brandonsantacruz wrote:There are still a million town thieves and they suck pretty hard.. Get some skill guys. Is there a way to know how much time you have before your "young" status is gone?

Re: Stealing from a pack horse.
It wouldn't be a problem if I could pre-emptively kill thieves. Most of the time they fail and I always hide my stuff, but they like to chase me around and act like idiots anyway. Once you are discovered, give it up. Go bother someone else!

Re: Stealing from a pack horse.
Yeah, that people steal in town, not a big deal.. That they chase you around so that you have to log out, that's just annoying and pointless. If it flagged a thief for snooping(to just the person being targeted) for something like 10-30 seconds, that would be enough imo. This isn't going to happen, of course, because it wasn't in the period. I honestly don't remember anything about the thieves guild requirement for stealing from blue player-characters.. I stole from people outside of town all the time when Sonoma was down. My favorite targets were ppl standing outside of Cove.. I'd run around with different sets of clothes to confuse them and go randomly steal things.
Wasn't there something set up so that only the person who had their item stolen could loot from the thief for a couple of minutes?

Re: Stealing from a pack horse.
In my time in UO I have been a great thief.
Great thieves are not at brit bank.

Re: Stealing from a pack horse.
Put the thief in a player guild. That way you can steal off your guildmates (regardless of thieves guild status), and you don't have to worry about the pack horse going wild if you're doing it afk.
Just drop the bottles on the ground, and make sure the victim has scavenger set up to pick them up. Set it up to snoop while the stealing timer winds down, and you should have a GM thief in no time.
