Short but sweet

Post by Stephen »

I haven't been playing this server for long and I'm already going to make my exit. I enjoyed some of the aspects of being here. I met some great people in $$$ and I had some fun ingame. My reasons for leaving though, is the constant ghosting of dungeons causing me to be pk'd every trip out hunting and working lockpicking, and the changes to t-maps so you can't tell what level they are. My treasure hunter was my last source of entertainment on this shard and now I have no idea when I will be able to gain the final .5 points to gm my character. It was a bad change, era accurate or not. I hope this is useful feedback to aid in the production of your shard.

There are a few of us who think that certain changes, era accurate or not, don't need to stay in the game (t-maps, bandages, etc). Unfortunately, it doesn't seem like any of these issues will ever be changed to cater to the player base rather than the era.

I am going to make your day Stephen.

Make Wold Maps to GM Cartography. This change went in a few months ago and is accurate to the era.

Do I get some kind of referral bonus for retaining players?

No need, I've already gone on to a new shard. This one just holds no interest for me anymore.

I completely agree as to the ghosting issue. Im hoping not to change the direction of this thread too much, but Id like to get this off my chest now that its been brought up.

Ghosting, while technically possible during the era, was not done with a tenth of the convenience as it is done here. Multiple accounts are given freely to every user and we offer inaccurate mechanics for allowing users to run multiple clients off of one computer. What we're seeing here is every single pk being able to ghost multiple locations and leaving their main sitting safely until a perfect situation arises, something that wasnt possible during the era. When guilds do this...potentially dozens of locations across the map being watched from the safety of another account....gank squads can watch all of the best hot spots and completely eliminate the risk vs reward that made playing a pk so difficult. In the end, we're seeing the majority of dungeons dead....all being "tied up" by the inactivity of ghosting.....players can no longer regularly occupy the best spawns in dungeons because a ghost is occupying it. It kills interaction....kills field pvp, and eliminates the majority of risk behind playing a pk. Its inaccurate, and in the end, kills much of the activity and interaction of the shard.

As I see it, this shard is about 50/50 when it comes to accuracy...all of the finetuning has been done to make the mechanics; the scripts/code accurate, but the approach to the game, some of the biggest rules/policies and even the capabilities and options of the player have been entirely changed...as if to say the game is technically accurate, but we can change whatever we want so long as its not an ig mechanic.

What we're seeing here is a player told to simply deal with burdensome mechanics because they are accurate but telling him he has to also deal with issues brought on by multiclienting, even though they are entirely inaccurate. I'm all for accuracy before all else, implementing what is admittedly bad features because they are accurate, but that same approach needs to be taken to the entire game...not changing major aspects of the game and ignoring it because they are not technical aspects or code.

Ghosting sucks
The second I show up at any hot spot this guild runs right to where im at kills me gates out right back to their house. Whats odd is they dont even let me farm any gold they just show up right when I show up
But what can you do about ghosting?
Nothin.. :(

People can blame the multiple account policy all they want for ghosting issues, but the truth is it would be a problem no matter the number of accounts allowed.

Even with three accounts there are sure to be some players out there who violate the policy. If it were limited to one, there would probably be many more.

The reason I point this out is because it also relates to other issues mentioned. This shard is not about making this or that player happy. (And regardless of the policies and features, there will always be people who will try to find a way around or exploit them). It's about replicating a point in time in this game. I do not necessarily like every change/feature in this era, but I know they are implemented with no intent other then accuracy. There is no malicious will; there is no attempt to cater to one player/playstyle or another. Therefore, any change is done with true fairness to the players as any personal influences are removed.

When players make threads and comments on threads like this complaining about pks and the difficulty of the game due to other players or an accuracy change, I wonder if they really grasp what this game, and furthermore a pvp enabled mmo, is about. You complain as if there is something wrong with challenges in a game or having to deal with a certain playstyle.

Personally, I'd rather you just go play a single player shooter and stop telling everyone else how messed up they are.

I don't think anyone would disagree with this.

I do however disagree that current policy is the reason for it. I also would like to see some other reasoning/suggestions on how to cope with it.

Sometimes this game or this server just will not conform to the type of game someone is looking for. This is not the fault of the server or the game.

Someone said to me (I forgot who it was) that they think ghosting should be dampened by making a ghost character unable to see PC's after 5 minutes of being dead.

If you can still see NPC's, but are unable to see PC characters, this would very nearly remove the ghost camping from this shard, or at least go a long way toward helping out with the problem.

Well no... then a ghost would just look for monster corpses on the ground. If you see 7 dead drakes and 3 dead dragons, or two drakes attacking each other, there's probably a good chance there's someone in Destard.

I wish I had a reasonable idea on how to curb this practice, because it's obnoxious and aggrevating.

But, like 6v1's, 2-second hally refreshes, and trapping hell hounds behind boxes... it's an abuse of an accurate mechanic (though I think it's a fair argument to say that ghosting would have cost someone $10/month in 1999).

Actually, heck... how about we charge the ghosting account $10/month. I'd be down for that - accurate, and beneficial to the shard :D

Sorry, just skimmed through, but how is it not multiple accounts for all that is encouraging it? Multiple accounts really does help the PK template in many ways, although not intentional, it's just the way it is.
