Macro Keys

Post by momquab »

Hey folks,

Random question but I have a few of my own keys set up to do different things but do any experienced UO players out there have any tips/suggestions for a good layout regarding what macros to assign to what keys?

If people have time, maybe you could give a small guide for each main class like a mini macro key guide to a mage or warrior? (Ie. F1 - Cast XXXXX, F3 - Meditate.... etc etc)
I still find myself bashing a lot of buttons and getting things mixed up so a lot of fine tuning still required!
All help is greatly appreciated!

its personal preference. there is no one way better than the other..
keys that make sense ----- make sense.
alt+n all names, alt+m meditation, alt+h hiding, etc. .but even that is personal preference.

for me, all my F keys are spells.. greater heal, recall, cure, etc.... just find a setup that works for you that you can remember.

For me, all important actions are on the left side of the keyboard. All other, less-used actions are on the right side.

Agreed ^

Just try to lay out your keys in some logical order, what that order is is entirely up to you, but some sort of structure makes it easier to remember what's what. I use my F keys for spells as well as my # keys. I keep my healing/beneficial spells on the left, direct damage spells in the middle, and debuffs & such on the right side. For skills & such I do much like Dagon said as well, alt+m for meditation, alt+h for bandage self & so on.

One thing to keep in mind also is that you can make different profiles in razor for different characters. For example, I like my primary skill for any char to be alt+, ...so I assign that as a razor hotkey under the various profiles I use so that for my bard it's provoking, for my thief its hiding, for my tamer it's taming etc.

Whatever you set them to it will take some getting used to before your fingers naturally hit the right button, but it will come with time & repetition. There's really no right or wrong way to do it.

I am used to AWSD positions for my hands. Even when I go to type, my left hand automatically goes to that position first. Anyway, the others are right in my opinion. No way is better. You just need to figure out what you use most and the most comfortable way to be able to reach them all. I set up my PvP'ers with AWSD, Magic is all numbers and pinky. 1-6 are attacks and my pinky finger controls defense for blocking spells and removing poison and the like with shift and then 1-6. Don't forget that you can use the same keys twice just by holding down a shift or an alt. This way my hand stays in a position I am comfortable with and I don't have to reach that far. Hope this has helped but its really up to you and experimentation. P.S. I have always used the mouse wheel for last target/clear target. This way as you are casting a spell, if i move the mouse wheel up, that spell will be applied to my last target as soon as it is done casting. Makes things a lot quicker, just need to keep track of targets and clear out friendlies after healing and the like so you don't attack friends by mistake.
