a slow start with only 100g!

Post by Oppo »

Hi,
I just joined the server this week and was amazed to find such a busy server.. i wondered where everyone was hiding. I used to play Catskills but quit after watching uo get more and more complicated. But always loved this era the mst.

I'm wondering if anyone has any ideas on moneymaking for a noob. Starting off wit 100g... Need quick money for supplies... and training...

Lastly, is there many guilds that helps train beginners? That would be perfect.

Thanks!
Oppo

Bowcrafting is easy safe money don't just bulk up on boards, make bows. Keep enough gold to keep buying axes but give the rest to another character on another account (you can make three accounts) in order to train them up. You want to make a healer on one account and a mage on the third right off. Train up your weapon/healing skills, with wrestling on your mage.

You want the healer to bandage as you train and your mage can help build resist for other characters that will not GM magery.
Alternatively you could make a pillar temp that was a healer mage to do both that could act later as your gater. Later gater :?

When you are finished doing that and you have made enough gold to train magery with come back to the boards to request a house to macro in.

Account #1
Bowcrafting
LumberJacking

Account#2
Healing
Resist
*macro Anatomy to GM before setting out to train, making the most of your bandages when it is time to do so

Account #3
Magery
Resist
*macro Meditation to 62 start int no higher then 25 to get better gains with the hat trick

ya the start is always rough. There's some guilds that help new players if you look around.

Man I'm going with that 100 gold blues right now,

I just got here a few days ago.

I just hit some hard truth about the bowcrafting tho.

I horded up about 7,000 boards in the bank. Go to make bows, and the NPCs are totally ripping me off. So I'm on these boards looking for a new money making method hehe.

Anybody? Anybody wanna buy boards bulk ? :)

Anyways...

I was catskills 98-99 myself, I was named Strongbow, Strongbow Smithy, x- (stupid name but fun char), and Smelly Smurf, I think. Hell I was like 15-17 at the time so yeah :).

P.S. x- was a master bowyer, and I don't remember the NPCs being this bad at buying bows.

I have made over 50k in less than a week with minimal effort lumberjacking, crafting the wood into bows, then selling them to npcs. That 50k number doesn't factor in the money I gave to my other characters or other expenses. It is 50k PROFIT. You can't sell to the same NPC over and over again or they'll decrease their prices. In Britain there are 4 vendors that buy bows. If you make 600 boards worth of bows, you can sell the entire set of bows to one vendor and the price will only lower a few gold by the end. If you alternate between vendors, the price will go back up by the time you are back to the first vendor again. Shouldn't be difficult, and this isn't even being creative at all. Very vanilla.

Oneiros,

I'm glad you had good results,

I was in Skara Brae and with just 500 boards worth of bows I found the prices tanking from about 31 to 12.

I alternated between the 1 bowyer, and 2 weaponsmith NPCs.

I'm wondering if I should just sell my boards in bulk at 3.5/board.

Edit Update,

Well maybe someone already tapped out the NPCs I was selling to. I had better luck later tonight in Yew, I think I will keep making bows. Thanks Oneiros.

I recommend Jhelom for selling bows. Tons of weaponsmiths and blacksmiths who will buy your bows. If you're still doing Skara, don't forget about the Ranger guildhouse outside of Skara. They have two or three npcs who buy bows. Just cross the water and head north on the path. Watch out for the orc camp nearby though.

Hey Theo,

Thanks for that Skara Brae tip. My bowyer is getting more mobile as I get stronger and more confident. Using moongates to hop around to new markets when one goes bad. It makes a big difference when there's another player making bows on the server at the same time and selling them.

It is tempting to just hoard the boards and sell them in bulk but I just don't feel like I'd be building a character as much by doing that. So I've decided to keep making crossbows for now.

Also I like your L Shape vendor house by Yew. I plan to buy stuff from there later as I start working on some adventuring characters. Those dex suits look nice, as do the bandages.

Kill the vendors after they start to cheap out. Sell to the newly spawned ones.
