Newbie tamer needs your help!

hello! I have never played a tamer before. I've always thought it would be too hard for me (especially trying to tame dragons, etc).

Can you guys help me with a template? I'm not sure what skills are complimentary to a tamer.

And if in fact I reach GM level... how in the world do you tame a dragon without getting killed?

One last thing: If in fact I tame a dragon... how hard/easy is it to control one with commands? For example, if some pks try to kill it, will the dragon still respond to my commands and try to step inside a gate? And are you able to resurrect pets here?

You cannot res pets.

Wrestle/resist/tame/lore/mage/med and something else is the typical tamer template. Most people do eval for vs players, and most farmers do vet, occasionally hiding.

They will respond pretty easily at GM, provided you keep them fed, use lore on them to determine when to feed.

I have a 7x GM tamer on Divinity. For taming purposes, the two servers aren't much different. When you go 85-100 and if you do the bulls route (longer but easier, I recommend it, and kill your tames for godsake) save ALL OF THE RAW MEAT. You will feel it to your dragons in droves to keep them from smacking you midcombat.

Magery/Med/Tame/An.Lore/Vet are your base
+Resist/Wrestle are what I suggest to go 7x.

Vet is too damn efficient to surrender. Gheal is just not as good (and damn expensive), not to mention you may sometimes be hard pressed to Gheal in addition to bandaging if you screw up, and you will screw up because pathing is terribad in this era. Also, save yourself a lot of grief and make a razor macro to click gates (target by type). Your pets will frequently hide the gate with large wings and if they are near death you need to run like hell, so make this macro to gate out and "all follow me" before the click. This will save you countless pets.

Furthermore, taming a dragon is not hard, especially a white wyrm if you know where to go. Use terrain to your advantage, such that the dragon focuses on you, but stalagtites protect you from meelee swings. I'd also suggest making a char on a 2nd acct. to heal your tamer while he tames and Gm his peacemaking skill to keep your tamer safe while he gets his dragons and wyrms. Use Ice Dungeon for your WWs and Destard for your Drags, specifically on lvl 2 where there is lots of terrain to protect you from meelee swings, but you'll need to clear the drakes first to keep you safe. Make that peacer/healer!!!!!!!! It will make your life so much easier, I swears it.

I am also leveling my tamer atm. Please, please, please kill your goddamn tames. Let me tell you how easy it is; just skill up a meelee skill and tactics temporarily on your tamer (I picked swords and am using any 2h swords wep), and spar a 2nd char or a jhelom fighter with a healbot to get it to near GM overnight. After you tame a mob say "all guard me", attack it, then say "all follow me", so it won't attack you back, and murder the bastard. This will make every tamer's life so, so, so much easier on this server. Imo, the inability to gain on another person's retame is stupid, but whatever; era accuracy ftw and I like this server, so I'll deal. Just please; invest a lil time on a wep skill and a killtames razor macro and make everyone's taming skill experience a lil better.

yeah I hate it when people tame everything. At least have the decency to rename it and release it, so someone else can kill it. Some dude doesn't even rename it, and keeps it tamed, so no one can kill it. selfish prick!

Tamer with 2 drags parked at E-gazer. 800 gold on each gazer & it takes 5 secs to kill them.

2 dragons will kill any monster faster than that monster could kill himself. The only advantage a bard has over a tamer is he can have multiple monsters killing each other at the same time. The down side is, there's no good monsters that appear in multiples, except the balrons which are on a somewhat slow timer.

If you want to take into account training time (GMing taming), and time spent taming dragons to use, then perhaps I'll agree with you Ettin King. If you have 3 months in which to earn a lot of gold, barding is better than taming. But in terms of a completed character straight-up farming, I pulled in around 80k per hour of farming with my 2 dragons at elder gazers (gold & gems only; magic items I didn't count, though I did ID them and pull them if they were good). I don't see barding getting anywhere near that.

its all in how you play the char another person on a bard you can smoke in a heartbeat cause ive not seen anyone else in game play one like me but no tamer on this server could come close...the only way a tamer could beat me in gold making was if all kill worked and they had 10 dragons.

So I lose less than a half-second of one dragon's attack time time due to not having "all kill".

No tamer at one spawn waiting on his mob to respawn after he kills it can beat me while i hold the keys to 4 different spawns, even thou that 1 mob drops around 800 gold almost most the mobs im killing hold 600 or so also and i never have to wait for the respawn.
