Hello all,
I have been playing for two weeks and I love the shard. Sadly, it takes up too much of my time so I just quit (gave away everything to a new player). That being said, I want to share with the new players how I quickly got up to speed. This may not be the best way, but it is my way, and I hope it helps you.
Step one: Make a provoker bard as your money maker. I suggest 49 magery, 50 resist, 1 music. Start in Minoc, run to the northern stables, and practice music and provocation in the stables. Stand in one stable (not hallway or else you may die) and provo an animal in another stable onto you until you GM music and get provo into the 80's. This will take one to two days. While provking, be sure to be herding the animal around the stall as well to build up your strength. Herding is not a 10 second action, so you can provoke the animal onto you, the use herd two or three times before the next provoke.
While this is occurring, make a melee character too. I suggest 50 swords or fencing and 50 healing. Start them off in Vesper and have them hit the Vesper graveyard. Every time they make 500-1000 gold run back and bank it. Your goal is to save up 5-6k for a full spellbook for your provoker (from a house vendor).
Once your provoker is up to the stats above, take them to the orc fort near the village of Cove (west of vesper). I am able to make great $ provoking the orc lords onto each other, as well as mages, outside of the fort. Best news is that Cove has a bank to store your savings, or to ress you if you die. The goal is to get about 10-15k so you can macro lighting bolt onto yourself one night, and summon animal in town one night and get magery close to 60. 60 magery will give you the shot of marking locations to farm, such as the orc fort.
Once you have 60 magery, I suggest you find better monsters to provoke (orc fort being a backup). I did the ogres on level 2 of Wrong. You can provoke the ogre lord onto everything else and he kills them quick. You can also cast poison on him to kill him (though he does resist alot). Make sure you mark a rune to Wrong, or wherever you like to hunt, and keep these in your bank. The ogres in Wrong are nice because they are big and easier to target with provoke than orcs/skeletons.
A day of provoking in Wrong and the orc fort should get you a house (I normally made 5k a trip). You should have a house within a week.
Days 1-2) Herding, Music, Provocation
Day 3-4) Cove Orc Fort, Training Magery to 60 at night
Day 5-6) Wrong, save for a house.
Hope it helps someone. Good luck!

[OOC: Nope! It came in quite late, and it was a field-stone building with railings to the South-West of the current temporary bank. I.E. it was specifically created.]
