Are those skill influenced by high dexterity?

Their "shown" skill is adjusted by dexterity. At a GM level it really should make no difference though.

Well basically you always have 2 values for a skill, "real" and "shown". You can toggle which one is displayed on the uo skill gump by using the show-real button at the bottom of the scroll.

It works to reward extra skill points in a given skill when a stat relating to that skill increases. Suppose you had 50 stealing and 10 dex. Your real skill in stealing would be 50, and the shown skill would be 50 as well. Now suppose you got 100 dex, and still had 50 stealing, because stealing is a dex based skill, your shown skill would be something like 55.1 or whatever. You still only have 50 skill, but when a calculation is made (like, you use stealing), the skill that it checks is your shown skill.

Once you get closer to GM in a skill, the benefit from stats curves off. Assuming 100 dex and 50 stealing gave you 55 shown skill, when your stealing gained up to aroung 80 real, your shown (the one that is used) might be something like 82.5. When stealing gets to aroun 99.0 real, the shown might only be modiefied up to 99.1 or so. At GM both values are identical.

Since most people work towards that ever famous 7xgm, they never really worry about the difference, but on builds using less than 100 in skills, you can plan your real skill and stats so that you can actually benefit from it.

In theory, it allows you more than the 700 skill points, but the cost is that the skills you use the points in, need to be marginally low to take advantage of this.

It's confusing, I know. I can sort of see why OSI did it this way, but I think it causes more confusion than it's worth.

Basically, when you plan out your template, plan using the "real" skill. When you are determining what to make/do to gain at a given level of skill, use your "shown" skill, because it is the one used to determine success/difficulty.

At 100 stealing, it makes 0 difference how much dex you have.
