Strictly townie craftsman a viable option on this server?
I'm not really a big fan of PvP fan and dungeon crawling bores me after a while...
What I really enjoy are crafting skills and being able to make/sell items that players need. On a server where you can have multiple accounts and unattended macroing, is having a character that is strictly a town merchant class a viable option to make decent money through player-to-player transactions?

I find it boring to mine/lumberjack so I do not have any craftsmen. I buy the majority of my stuff from Theogards 2-story in Yew.

I play my Theograd character about 95% of the time, and I'm pure craftsman/merchant. I like to think I'm proof that yes, you can pull it off. It's not easy though. Once you have an established customer base, it gets a lot easier. An easy early money maker, while still gaining skill, is bowcraft. Not a huge market for it, but it's great money selling to NPC's. Feel free to ask me anything, glad to help a new merchant.

I appreciate the advice. I've gone the bowcrafting route to make some money till I got my skills/stats leveled up to head out and farm some real gold.
I used to craft different kinds of leather armor and make GM weapons on other servers and used to be able to hang out at the forge or bank in Brit back in the day and have a constant flow of customers looking for except. quality crafted items. Or potions...or scrolls...
I'll save up some resources and gold once I'm able to buy a house and probably start working on some mules...
Gotta find a nice spot for a little house first though. You think it's worth to get a small house at first or save up for a larger house like a 2 story? I don't even know if there is still room to place a house of that size around. A small house I'm sure I can find a place for, but the larger one I doubt. I haven't really taken the time yet to run around and look.

The days of standing at Brit forge are long gone, I"m afraid. But again, once you get your name established, it's not uncommon to be flagged down in the middle of nowhere. I know I've made custom orders for people next to a random mountain, using someone's house that happened to be public as a workstation. (Remember kids, always carry tinker tools and 20 ingots!)
I offer free housing to new players, but I think my vacancies filled up today. Phallax has some openings, I believe:

As far as skills go, this server isn't big enough to make your fortune on just one crafting skill, so variety is key. Once you get your seed money, you could probably get good returns on it doing scribing. Just offer to do large orders of recalls, and you'll usually get a bite.
Again, anything I can do to help, let me know.

Thank you for the housing offer. I actually was pretty happy about being able to save up enough cash to buy a small house deed and find a nice spot east of Minoc. Unfortunately it's not as close to a moongate or a mountain range as I'd like, but at least it seems pretty quiet with almost no spawn.
I'm amazed at how long it took me to actually find a spot...
How the hell do people find spots to put bigger houses?? IDOC's?

I currently have a small, 2-story and large brick. The large brick I just stumbled upon north of my 2-story that just had an empty spot where another brick use to be. The spot also fits a 2-story but I just love the design of the brick more.

I'm with you on that one. I'm not a huge fan of the 2 story. I do love the brick and the patio style. My chances of finding a spot to put either of those is probably pretty rare. Maybe I'll save up the money to buy one off somebody when I get enough cash...Karik Verlee wrote:I currently have a small, 2-story and large brick. Larges aren't too pricey. You can usually get one for deed plus 20k. Thats what I paid for mine. Im considering letting mine go. But we'll see what happens.
I use to love the patio, but I don't like it anymore. The patio is basically a worthless room due to people trying to kill anyone that they can. So the large brick gives plenty of safe macro room which I love.
